Tejon Ranch Big Pig Contest

Just thought I'd throw it out there. I'm leaving tomorrow for TR to hunt this weekend. It's the archery only POR put on by Don Smith of Archery Sports LLC. in Simi Valley. I was successful on my last hunt there and hoping for a repeat. If anyone has hunted the northside (tejon canyon, around reservoir #2, jack's pasture, monte fields, etc.) and has info to share it sure would be helpful. Hope to see and meet some of you archers there.

I blew my hunting money this Spring, and need to conserve for the fall season. I'm sure jonesing to go hunt something, though! Oh well... only a couple more weeks before A-zone archery.

If you are a person that enjoys:

a. 98 degree temperature in the shade starting at 7:00 am, continuing until 8:00 pm, 110 degree temperature between the trees.

b. a layer of sweat

c. a layer of dust

d. a relentless layer of various and biting insects

e. very little hog movement

f. pressured hogs

then I would highly recommend this hunt.


I passed on some little fellas during this hunt so in fairness I should say I had "opportunity". I also explored more of the ranch than I ever did before since my usual sports were not productive. Just know that hunting the Tejon archery area in June is quite different than hunting it in February. It's an exercise in self-torture and you'll question your own sanity often during this hunt.

Sounds a lot like the Cal archery openers for deer.
