People seemed interested in the Tejon Pig Hunts after Jesse, Doug and I posted our story.  I found this on Turner's website, so I thought I would post it just in case anyone was interested...there are two left. I have no idea if they are full of not...

Tejon Ranch Hog Hunts Information

What: Turner?s Outdoorsman, Mike Raahauge Shooting Enterprises, and California Hog Hunter Tejon Ranch Hog Hunts.

When: These weekend hunts are hosted throughout the year. See attached list of dates available.

Where: Hunters will stay at one of the two Tejon Ranch hunting lodges. Each lodge sleeps 10 hunters.

Directions: The Tejon Ranch is located at the top of the Grapevine near Lebec. Take Interstate 5 north from the Los Angeles area and exit at the Fort Tejon offramp. Go west (right) to the first set of buildings and turn into the lower parking area to complete your sign-in.

Who: YOU and the other hog hunters will join Jim Matthews from California Hog Hunter and Western Outdoor News for a weekend of fun.
The hunts are limited to 10 hunters.

Giveaways: There will be a drawing following the 2002 series of hunts for a complete rifle package ideal for hog hunting. Everyone who attended one of the 2002 hunts will be entered in the drawing. The winner will be able to fill out the paperwork to pick up the rifle at his nearest Turner?s
Outdoorsman after the required waiting period.

Itinerary:

Friday: All hunters will meet at the ranch headquarters between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday to sign in, get their pig tags stamped, and pick up their Tejon Ranch hunting permit. You will then be sent or escorted to one of the two lodges. Hunters can hunt/scout the first evening or sight-in rifles and relax at the lodge. A late dinner will be served at each lodge approximately a hour after dark to allow time for all hunters to return to camp. After dinner all hunters will be given an orientation and suggestions where they might see pigs in the morning.

Saturday: A continental breakfast will be set out approximately two hours before shooting time so hunters can get an early start on their hunting. Lunch (sandwich makings, fruit, cookies etc.) will be available at the cabins all day. Dinner will be served no sooner than an hour after dark to give hunters time to get back to camp and clean up.

Sunday: Again, a continental breakfast will be set out early for hunters to get an early start. Hunters must be back at the cabins and all gear cleared out
no later than 1 p.m.

Details: The $510 fee includes two nights in one of the Tejon?s two premier hunting lodges, all food, and a chance to bag a pig on Tejon. All you need to bring is your firearm, ammunition, hunting license and pig tags, knife and gear for field dressing game, game bags, ice chests to haul game to your butcher, your personal gear, and a vehicle to use for hunting (preferably a four-wheel drive). This is not a guided hunt, but a unique opportunity to hunt wild hogs on the Tejon Ranch on your own and sit around the fire in the evening with other hunters on one of Southern California?s most pristine ranches. You don?t need to bring sleeping bags or bedding. If you would like to drink alcoholic beverages in the evening, you are welcome to bring you own drinks. No drinking is allowed in the field while hunting. No drinking and driving is allowed. No open containers in vehicles are allowed. Please save the drinking for the lodge after you have finished hunting for the day.

Cancellations: If you have a family emergency and must cancel, we will refund $300 of your fee if we cannot replace your spot. If we are able to fill your spot at the last minute, we will refund the whole amount.
Waiting List: Since each hunt is limited to just 10 hunters, we will have a waiting list in case of last minute cancellations. If you are on the waiting list, we will not cash your check until you are confirmed for the trip. Confirmation letters will be sent out to each hunter confirmed for the trip prior to the
hunt.

Tejon Insurance: All hunters must have a Tejon insurance policy. The $10 policy is valid for an entire year of hunting on the Tejon from Sept. 1 through August 31. If you have already purchased a policy for this year, please not that on the registration form and deduct $10 from the price of the hunt.

Pig Tags: To speed the registration process on Friday at the ranch headquarters, you can send us a pig tag, filled out with your information, when you send in your registration. Make sure you have tags for the current hunting year.

Mailing List: We will place all hunters who sign-up for this hunt, and those who are bumped to a waiting list, on a mailing database for all future hunts we organize. This list will NOT be distributed to anyone else.

Questions: If you have specific questions about the Tejon Hunts not covered in this information, contact Jim Matthews at 909-887-3444.
Best Regards,

Dates:

February 22-24, 2002 HOG HUNT (10 hunters, two nights in lodge)
March 22-24, 2002 HOG HUNT (10 hunters, two nights in lodge)
May 17-19, 2002 HOG HUNT (10 hunters, two nights in lodge)
June 28-30, 2002 HOG HUNT (10 hunters, two nights in lodge)
July 26-28, 2002 HOG HUNT (10 hunters, two nights in lodge)*

The fee for each hunt is $510 per person. This fee includes stay for the listed number of nights at one of the two Tejon Ranch?s hunting lodges, meals from Friday night through Sunday noon, and the mandatory $10 ranch insurance policy.
The hog hunts are NOT guided, and it is NOT a guaranteed hunt. However, success rates on non-guided hog hunts on the Tejon are typically around 40 to 60 percent. You will be hunting free-ranging wild hogs on your own at the Tejon Ranch. The $10 Tejon Ranch insurance policy is valid from Sept. 1, 2001-Aug. 31, 2002.

Thanks for the info.  Sounds fun, but too expensive for me.  I still need a rangefinder.  Dang, Christmas is a long ways off.

Camp, bring your own food, go with some JHP'ers to a Pig oRama, $300.00.  But the experience is priceless.

I hope Barbera and Don don't see how many JHP'rs are already gearing up for next years POR. They just might get a crazy idea and kick up the price.:nope-blue:

If they do, we'll have to boycott, politely of course. I'm sure we can work out a deal if that happens.  The POR's have not been selling out. So, I don't think that they will change prices.  Supply and demand.   If they sold out at $300, that would be $30,000 gross.  If they raised it to $350, they would need 86 hunters to hit that number.  I think we could represent 20 of those hunters.  So hey, power in numbers baby.

Truly, they are some of the nicest folks I have ever known.  They want it to be affordable, and they want it to be fun. So, more power to them to sell it out, and increase their revenue.

Dats all.

Actually if we can put our own group together, say 10 or 20 hunters, we can arrange a "special hunt day" for ourselfs with only JHP people, instead of going to a "regular" PIG-O-RAMA hunt and even "possibly" get some kind of discount or perk.  So if you guys want to put one together in the future, let's start making some phone calls and count me in!

1SoCAl:

I'm all about that. Can't think of a month, other than November that makes sense for me. Don't feel like going in the middle of summer.  Archery deer will take up my Sept, Oct, and December.  Although, November might be a key deer hunting month for some of you guys.  However, it  would be great to cut a deal set up just like the POR, Fri-Sun, $300 bucks or less.  November would be perfect for me, then Feb, then May.

Does that work for y'all?

Make it last two weeks of Nov. and count me in.  I have an Elk hunt on FHL in early Nov.  Dates not confirmed yet.

I start with deer at the end of August, and between that and family responsibilities (lots of holidays in there), I won't get loose again to pig hunt until ducks go out in January.  However, I'd sacrifice a weekend at the end of duck season for a JHP pig hunt.

When we were there on June 7th, there was a group of 15 or so guys and one of them said that they negotiated a special price as well.  So, if you guys are serious about going, then we should pick a date and collect names and see what kind of deal we can get.

I second that, not only that it would a ton of fun, but as I said before, if we put our own JHP group together, we'll get a price break as well.  So hereby I nominate you as the "organizer" of this hunt :smile-big-blue:, so put it together and count me in!!

I'm in!  How about November 22-24?  Or Nov. 29 - Dec 1 (Thankgiving weekend?)  That gives 300Boss time to regroup after his Elk Hunt, and we'll all be eating elk backstap. I can round up  three other buddies.

1SoCalHunter: I don't mind handling it, but I think Jesse (AKA Bubba) would be a better choice since he set up our hunt and already has the rapport...either way, I am sure it will all come together...just have to decide on the "when" :wink-yellow:

I am going to make it down there one of these days to hunt with that wild and crazy bunch!

Jan or Feb would be better for me.

YUP! February is definitely a great month for hog hunting, but let's try to tackle the first one for November, let's see how many people would be willing to do the private JHP-O-RAMA hunt at the Tejon Ranch in November?

I won't be able to do the November hunt, but I think February is do-able.  My brother wants to fly out for another one too.

Of course, I bought my lottery tickets...
