Killing pigs on Pearl Harbor Day. How appropriate. I.m in. One track, is this a POR or a special JHP hunt?

What are those roads like in the wet?  Clay?  Sloppy?
I think I'll have to make some room in my schedule for this...

From what I saw, Rancho, a lot of those roads are gonna be nightmarish in the wet.  There are a lot of steep-canted roads, and the ground seems to have a lot of clay.  It'll get ugly.  One of the ranchhands said they have a lot of folks slide off the roads in the winter.

Short wheel base, agressive tires, and lots of skill... along with a good winch...  that's probably the best bet for getting away from the main roads.  But there are a lot of roads that I didn't drive, so your mileage may vary.

OneTrack hunted Tejon last February, I think, so he may have better intel on the road situation.  Of course, we didn't have a whole lot of rain last year...

Hi Y'all:

Just back from a 9 dayer in NE, where the corn is tall, and the women ain't small.

Barbara got back with some answers.  No, we can't do a group hunt in November, due to other special hunts, deer and such.  Also, the Pig O Rama is scheduled for December 6th - 8th.  When they do a special group hunt, they include the cabins/lodging.  So, prices for the POR can't be beat.  If you're interested in a group hunt, simply email her at bbb@frazmtn.com.  She is the nicest lady in the business.

Rancho:

Yes it gets nasty. One drop of rain and it's slick as snot. In February, it rained all day on Friday.  We had some scary episodes.  Actually had a wheel hanging over the edge of a cliff.  We put the snow chains on and tied the truck off to the nearest tree and got out. I kinda enjoyed the adrenaline rush.  However, the roads dry in just a few hours. Can't let a little rain slow you down.  We got out and walked from the main road and found a group of 25+ hogs, just 1/2 mile from the truck.  So, there is always something to do.

Chains on your tires help alot in the mud. Preferably on all four tires.

I'm pretty new to JHP, though I have been browsing the pages for a few months now.  In regards to the POR in December...Is that a JHP-POR or just Tejons' standard POR?

Thanks,

Rancho, my wife IS from Nebraska. Good folk, no doubt.

Welcome Orso.   The POR is not a special hunt for JHPers.  It's Tejon's special promotional-type 2 1/2 day hunt that they hold about five times a year.  Best deal going. Great success rate, and all for only $300.

As far as I know myself and father (Gnn961) would definately be up for a JHP POR. We've been salivating at the chance to hunt that ranch, and the private pigs at Carizzo are getting the best of us. Although our group did luck out w/ 2 public porkers a month or so ago, but the hike was brutal and the weather is getting hotter than Hates. We can't wait to hook up w/ you guys on one of these hunts. Keep us posted!!

One Track: OK. let me see if I got this straight.  They do not give special rates to groups, but they do offer up the cabins to groups instead with now additional charge?  That sounds a little strange to me.  The group of 15 that was there for the June 7th hunt specifically said that they got a group rate, BUT they did not share what that rate was.  They must have changed their policy.  Has someone been keeping a list of people interested in going???  If I have a pretty good count, maybe I will fire an e-mail off to her and ask her what it will cost per hunter.  Also, do you know if they have set the dates for this hunting seasons Pig-O-Rama??? I think it is time to nail them down and find out what their policy actually is here....

Yeah, I agree with gwhunter69, I am a little confused, let's get the whole story straight and "detailed" so that everybody has a better understanding and in any case, count me in for the hunt!!

I fired off an e-mail off to Barbara as an out-of-the-blue inquiry about future Pig-O-Ramas.  We'll see what she says.  One Track, what is her normal turn around time on e-mails?  Prompt? Or does she appear to check them every 1-3 days like some people I know? LOL!

Sorry my message was confusing.  I'll try to reword what I know. I don't know much. If you want to pursue another date for a JHP hunt, just send her an email.  She responds to my emails in a day or two. However, it took her more time to get answers.  She might get back to me quicker, as she knows who I am.  I think she digs me.

If we come up with another date that works for everybody, then I would be happy to get more details. Personally, I was hoping for a November hunt.  Since that ain't going to happen, I'll just plan on doing the Dec, Feb, and May POR's.   I'm not interested in lodging, as I like the time around the campfire with all you old dogs.

1. The next POR is scheduled for Dec. 6th-8th. It has nothing to do with JHP.
2. They could not accomodate us on either of the last 2 weekends in November.
3. They won't discount the $300 POR.
4. They will provide special pricing for a group hunt, not coinciding with a POR date.
5. From what I gathered, the pricing won't be any better than the $300 Pig O Rama. However, that's based on hunting 2 1/2 days and camping out.
6. With a special group hunt, they can also package in lodging, like you see on the Turners' hunts.
7. That's about all the info that I gathered.

Y'all take care now. And, if you need to borrow some money, give Speckmisser a call.

Thanks On Track for the recap.  It is clear now.  Well, maybe we should try to do a JHP hunt during one of their regulary schedule POR hunts, except we do it all through one person.  That way they can see that we are a force to be reckoned with and the next time we come a knocking, they may be more accomodating.

The only trouble for me is that January thru April 15th is tax season, so it will have to be December or May...I assume that they will consider another June POR next year too.  $300 ($310 with the insurance for the first time in a season) is well worth it too.  Even more of a draw since Speckmisser is handing out loans...LOL! JK

Almost slipped that under the radar, didn't ya, Richard?

I have a special loan policy.  You go ahead and pay me "back", with simple interest of about 12 to 25 percent.  I take your check, cash it, and when it clears I loan you the original amount.  I think it's a really sweet deal, and don't see how you could turn it down.  So ya'll drop on by the First Bank of Speckmisser, and I'll be sure and take real good care of you.

For my own part, I'm definitely planning on hitting either the February or May hunt (or both, if I can make enough loans before then).

I got a respone from Barbara this morning, but we already knew this stuff.  See below:

Hi Richard:

Thanks for your nice input re your last Pig-O-Rama experience. Happy to hear you'll be coming back to see us.

We'll do our 2002-2003 calendar mailing in Oct, with Pig-O-Rama hunts beginning in December. You're on my mailing list & will receive this via mail or Email, we'll be sending via both methods.

Pig-O-Rama hunts are always $300/person, we do not have a reduced group price.

Barbara
