Here are the results of our Tejon Ranch guided pig hunt last weekend.

My pig was a young boar just over 100 lbs. He kind of looks like "ALF"

Although he was not a big pig, it was a pretty challenging running shot at a little over 50 yards. Put the 140 grain Barnes Triple Shock from my 7x57 just behind the shoulder and the pig dropped instantly. No tracking needed.

The next pig was taken by my friend on his first big game hunt. A really nice trophy boar. He shot it broadside at just over 150 yards with his Rem 700 Ti in 30-06. He used factory 150 grain Rem CoreLokts and he shot it only once thru both lungs. The bullet did not exit and was just under the skin on the opposite side.

I am waiting for the photo from my 3rd friend. It was also his first big game hunt and he shot a really nice +220 lbs. boar at a lasered 310 yards. We were able to get a steady rest across a small canyon from where the boar was feeding. This friend was shooting one of the lightweight Sako M75 with the 20" barrel also in 30-06. He also was shooting the Rem CoreLokts in 150 grains. Hit the boar perfectly thru both lungs and again, the bullet was recovered just under the skin on the off side. At the shot, the boar ran straight down the hill and we heard a bunch of crashing in the brush in the bottom of the canyon. Very easy track to follow. I will try to post these pictures tomorrow.

Thanks.

Tim:

Congratulations. That ranch sure is beautiful this time of year. Nice hogs. Good shootin'! What did the second pig weigh? I'd guess close to 200 lbs. Nice photos.

One Track,

The guides said the 2nd pig weighed well over 200 lbs. In fact they estimated it at 275 lbs. The photo that you see is after the pig was gutted. I was much fatter prior to that. Anyway, I'm not much of a judge of pig weight/size, so I was just going on what the guides said.

Our guides were Cody & Steven.

Your dangling the candy right infront of these boys just before their May hunt at Tejon. I love it.

Shumba, any idea where on the ranch you guys were? I'm sure these guys would be interested.

Good work, Shumba and Co.

Like Superduty said, this is just what all these guys waiting for May 21 need... a little more Tejon pork on the ground to make their mouths water and their sleep restless with dreams of toothy boars and fat sows.

The hogs are there, fellas. All you gotta do is find 'em... track 'em and whack 'em.

Looks like you had a great time. I'm gonna start saving for the next Tejon Hunt.

The ranch is a great place. Were you up high or down in the lower foothills?

Thanks guys. It was a really fun hunt. However, the guides said that the pig activity was pretty slow. We stayed in the lodge on the North side of the ranch and pretty much drove around alot searching for pigs. We drove so much, I can't really recall where we got our pigs exactly. Mostly focused on the foothills of the North side.

On Saturday morning we spotted a group of pigs on a hillside really far away. Our guide, Cody, said he wanted to take a leak before we went to put a stalk on them. We all got out of the truck and then noticed a lone boar feeding on an opposite hillside about 350 yrds away. We were able to get little closer, but he was across a canyon. My friend was able to get set up on a log which made for a very steady rest. I then lasered the pig with my Leica 1200 and got a reading of 310 yards. We waited a bit for the pig to clear some brush and turn broadside. As he did, my buddy made a perfect double lung shot with his lighweight Sako M75 30-06 with a 20" barrel. He was shooting 150 grain Remington CoreLok factory loads which were probably not going very fast out of that 20" barrel. However, when we sighted in the rifles, my friend was able to place 3 shots touching at 100 yards. Knowing that he was shooting about 1.75" high at 100 yrds, we suggested holding the crosshairs on the pigs back assuming a 9" drop at 300 yards (there was no wind).

Here is what we found after tracking the pig into the bottom of the canyon.

This was my friend's first big game hunt. Pretty impressive pig and pretty impressive shooting.
