Does anybody out there know if pig hunting on Tejon Ranch unguided is worth it ($500)? I've never hunted pig before, but was thinking about booking a hunt (unguided) for mid-march. Any idea what part of the ranch is better (Northern or Southern)?

Thanks for the help!

I'm sure you'll be glad you did, we hunted the first hunt since the closure in December and had a blast. Wasn't a slam dunk, you had to hunt hard, get out early as they will head for cover at daybreak.

You should have a great time.... Head out early and stay late. Use your 4 wheel drive to get up high. Use your glass to find them. Use your little wind puffer to sneak up on them, and use your tons of rope to pull them out of the Hell hole they will eventually die in. Unless your lucky. It is a great Ranch have fun!

Thanks everyone for all the input, this is great! Being that this will be more first ever pig hunt and I've never stepped foot on Tejon, Any ideas on where to start looking in the Norther section? I'm in great really good shape, so traversing steep terrain shouldn't be a problem at least until I get one down... Feel free to send me a PM if you like.

Thanks again, this is why I love this site really good people that just want to see you succeed!

Agreed, try and stay high, you will have a better advantage glassing. Try getting up there first thing in the morning these hogs will be headed for cover at gray light. If you see where they bed down make your way there and just wait em out, we got one at 0900 hrs and and the other one at 1300hrs.......Good Luck

Just got back from the South Side. Pigs were everywhere, roads are in bad shap so we stayed low. Didn't matter at all. Saw hundreds of pigs in a couple of days.

I am up there a lot so if you want some info before you go shoot me a PM the week before you head up. These arent secret spots so I don't mind getting you in the right area.

Just FYI these guys are correct in that the pigs love the deep thick stuff. I however see a lot of pigs moving all day and wait for the right one that is in the right place.

Worth every penny, you wont find a more beautiful place with the amount of pigs on it to hunt. Both sides are the same the hole place is full of pigs.

As you head up the haul rd there is a high spot off the left side where you can look down on top of another hill.the hill is kind of flat on the top. Stop and glass that area.up the road a little farther there is a little two track road that goes down into the area down to a water trough. I suggest parking the truck and walking in. Seen lots of piggies in there. I know it's vague but its one those "I know it when I see it" things.
