Tejon Ranch Pig-O - Rama

from what I gather from lurking here a bit before ever posting there is a bit of confusion on what pig-o-rama really is.

Tejon ranch has regularly scheduled wild pig management hunts... these are not the same thing as tejon ranch pig-o-rama.

The tejon ranch pig-o-rama was an event coordinated by members here at JHO and scheduled with staff at tejon ranch to get a bunch of the board members together for a slightly lower cost hunt and the ability to meet-hunt-greet with other members.

from what I gather, the main gentleman that used to set these along with Jesse had since moved to Texas and I'm not sure anyone else took hold of the reigns and managed to keep this tradition alive... I've only seen documented/self narrated hunts/stories up to 2011... someone who is a more regular member or past participant could certainly offer more info than myself but a quick Google search will pull up a blog from the member that used to coordinate these and lots of other info, just nothing on the tejon ranch page cause they only host the event, not create or coordinate said event.

Tejon no longer allows JHO to have our annual Pig-O-Rama on their ranch. You have to buy the spring or fall access pass or pay to hunt one of their management hunts.

It used to be called Tejon POR (Pig-O-Rama) on the Tejon Ranch Brochure and early Tejon Ranch website. It got renamed to Wild Pig Management Hunt.

Private Tejon POR were coordinated by a JHO member for JHOers in the old days. These hunts were stopped when Tejon temporary shutdown huntings about 1.5 years ago.

Tejon also coordinate their own Tejon POR, open to the public. These hunts are now called Wild Pig Management Hunt. Some old day Tejon veterans still refer to these hunts as Tejon POR.

spring is 2k and you get 2 pig tags with membership. I think you can go and bag as much as you can afford. 350 for a pig tag.

so additional tags besides the 2 have to be purchased through them? can't just get reg tags n hunt the property using your pass for access?

really doesn't sound like it's worth it to me considering the cost of management hunts and likelihood of getting a pig per 3 day trip...

really wish they had more info on the site about their memberships.

With the membership you are getting access to the property any time you want to go. you can shoot upland game, squirrels, coyotes, bobcats (with a tag) and additional pigs if you pay for additional tags. It really is a great deal. I have been a member for a few years now and I absolutely love it.

The ranch is split into to sides now the North side which I believe is around 2000.00 for the season (spring or fall), and the south (Cross and Crescent Hunt Club). i dont believe there is any info on the price of this membership but it is an annual membership and costs more than the North.

I am a member on the South Side.

im not exactly sure how many pig tags or guest passes you get on the North side.

i will tell you this. I have never been on a management hunt up there so I dont know how many people are roaming the hills on those days, but I do know that out of the last 4 times I was up there on weekends I saw about 75 pigs for every person i saw on the Ranch.
I take my kids up there and show them more wildlife than you could ever see anywhere else in the state. My 7 year old daughter and i watched about a dozen bull Elk sparring in a canyon last fall. it was amazing.

so sure you can do the management hunt and go put meat in the freezer, or you can be a member and truly enjoy the property and shoot a perfect pig when you want too. e.g. uphill from the road so you dont have to drag them too far!

Captjgray well said, I am a north side member and will be for as long as it is open. And when I'm a millionaire which cld b anyway I wld do both sides as the south side membership is like $6,000. The ranch is worth every penny, just spend one night up there with some good buddies and u will see!
Spring and fall is $2000 each
Get 2 pigs
Kill small game
Some guest passes
And the most diverse outdoors that the state has to offer!
Last Friday we saw
Brown phase black bear
Coyote
Badger
Bald eagle
Golden eagle
100 elk
Over 200 pigs
deer everywhere
Fox
6 bobcats
And fresh lion tracks

Nah it's not worth it who was I kidding!

so additional pig tags are really $350ea. ?



wish I had that kinda money to throw at nice scenery... but 3 pigs with a membership is $2,350.... 3 management hunts are $1,500 for access and 21.34 a tag and I don't think 2 pigs a hunt is outta the question...

I would have to buy 7 additional hunts along with the membership (9 total pigs with the 2 included tags)
before it gains more value then 9 management hunts with only one hog harvested per hunt...

like I said, I wish I had the money to spend on great scenery and time in beautiful country, but I don't have that kinda money and really I am just lookin to put meat in the freezer... thanks again for the info guys. One day I'll be gettin a membership...

Wow! Poults typically appear in early to mid summer and only about 10-14 of them.

That's why I pointed it out Cali! I'm not an expert on gobblers but she was in a huge hurry to keep them a movin! And I must say I have never seen hens alone? Usually like 10 or more??? Feel free to chime in.

And poopy pier makes the point that I was tryin to make clear! That's if u get a pig!!! 30-80 others hunting the same area pushes these pigs back deep and after first night of craziness u at not see another pig!! I should know I did 5 managements before joining. My buddy was up sunday and after we saw 200+ on Friday he didn't see a one!!!!
And if you do see pigs, u have to make the choice!!!! Do I kill this smaller pig or hold out for a bigger one! And maybe never see another!!! Hmmm....
