I am throwing the towel in on public land. I have only seen a few pigs at FHL and I have gone 9 times. It was when they opened area 22 and I was new to hunting with a shotgun. If it happened now I would have some bacon /sigh. Anyways I am seriously considering going with a buddy to Tejon for one of the wild life management hunts. I have read a lot of great things about them and seems there is a great deal of success. Seeing as it cost me almost 400-600 in gas to get from Camp Pendleton in my Jeep to FHL I may as well spend that money on some place a bit closer to home. At least that is how I am selling it to the wife as she claims while I have success at deer hunting her Hawaiian ancestors put me to shame in the piggy department. All joking aside what is a good rate of success there at the ranch? Opinions or guesses are fine, just needing a nudge to spend the money. I am not afraid to hump it, I usually cover 10 miles or more a day on foot at FHL

December success rate were around 60%, but not due to the lack of Pigs. As thewolfman said, they're everywhere from what I've learned. I'm hunting the March 22 weekend for my Birthday, let me know if you come up maybe we can hunt together...

I'm up here right now. Gates opened at 12 and saw a huge boar roaming alone about 1 1/2 hrs in. Later in the evening I saw 12 hogs and 4 piglets but they were too far away before sundown.

So far awesome! Ran into a guide just cruising around and he was super nice and gave us some advice.

Been there done that. I use to take my horses and go all the time on public land. No success, spent lots of money. Tejon ranch is a great hunt for the price. I have hunted the pig o rama for the last 8 years. Only one time I came home with no hog. He was hit but just got away. The ranch has changed a lot but it is still a good hunt for the price. If you are willing to get out and walk you should locate hogs. April is a good time to go. We have had most of our success during this month. I have seen a lot of other places to hunt but you just can't beat the price for tejon ranch. Some of those other outfitters will charge you a trophy fee. Not tejon. There are some big hogs on the ranch. You will have to work on them like any other hunt but you can be successful I know that 500 dollars seems like a lot of money which it is. But I added up all my hunts to hunter ligget, kern land company. You are money ahead hunting on the tejon ranch. Your success rate will be much better. Great hunt for the price.

I really appreciate it! Looks like its either the March or April trip. My hunting partner is back from the Stan and he needs to put some cash aside as he got a new truck. You are right wolfman I put a lot of money into hunting FHL and really if I go to Tejon the trip pays for itself with the gas I save.

Tejon is a great place to hunt. The problem with the pig o rama hunts is that they are limited to certain times/days. You can not bring a non hunter(like my wife so she can clean the game). You will get a lower price per pound on your pork over private land but you will spend way more per hour in the field. I have been on both sides of this but I have found that for the price of a few weekends a year at Tejon I have access to hunt properties all over the state for all species- deer, pig, turkey, upland bird and waterfowl. the success rate for just pigs is much lower than tejon but much higher than public. I would guess it is about the same as FHL success wise. Anybody know what they charge now for anual access to Tejon now and what it includes?

Yeah, I was able to see that. I wanted to avoid the sales pitch. The best I can find out it is a set price for spring or fall and you still pay per pig/deer/turkey and the camping and fishing is included. I was hoping they would publish their pricing like they used to. I know someone on her must be a member.

From what I've heard, the Spring membership this year is $2000 for a family, including 2 pigs and 2 guess passes.

When does the membership start? Used to be around mid Feb wasnt it? How much for one person spring access. They're closed now or I would call and not appear to be lazy butt.

What does a membership get you? Do the guests get to hunt? For that price it almost seems better than me and a buddy doing 2 pig-o-rama's.

It's $2000 for the individual spring membership, which includes a spouse or dependent child. The family add on is another $500. But based on the new map, it looks like we only get to hunt the North side? The south side is labeled Cross and Crescent Hunt Club members only, and I have no idea what that is.

Also, the spring season is now March 1 to July 31. Still unsure if I will be doing the membership this year, I really liked the South side.

Are you active duty? If so look into vandenburg... You can check out that section of the forum and talk to the folks that hunt there.

Thanks, I will stick to 100 ranches, 365 access and turkey, deer, pig, waterfowl, camping, upland, varmint, predator and family for under 2k. I appreciate the feedback. I should offer someone unlimited hunting hunting on my plus membership for the $600 if I could find someone that could stand my company that much.
