ig-laughing:Damn, I'm having serious Tejon withdrawals. My work season is over and usually I'd be out there weekly. I'll be out of the country for most of June and July. Just didn't make sense for me this year. Hope you guys much success this year. I'll be looking for the photos!

Went last week. Definitely few pigs. We killed one. Saw few pigs the whole weekend. If you are going soon glass near the aqueduct pipes. That was the only area with any real pig sign. We saw a few there. We hunted the ranch hard a checked every watering hole we knew and saw no fresh sign. Only fresh sign we saw was near the paved road and pipes

They are deep in ravines. Aren't hittin water holes as there is running water down there. But since the grass is turning they will be moving more and more... U have to get out and hike. I saw the coolest calico 2 weeks ago just sittin on side of deep ravine and he came out just below me feeding 5 min before dark. 3" teeth and the deepest calico I have ever seen up there...if u were on other side looking over u wld have never seen him due to cover. Right place right time...going up Friday am... Brett u wanna go?

I managed one a couple days ago in an undisclosed location. Sign was scarce and the temps were oppressively brutal. I didn't have high hopes, but decided to check out a water hole. It was about sunset when I got close to it, and the pigs were there. From what I could tell, with these temps, they will be in close proximity to water, very close. Okay wudda I mean, what I mean is that after my harvest of a nice eater boar, I was jabber jawing with no care in the world. The rest of the pigs scurried into the brush after the shots. But they were back at the water hole, while we were loudly jabber jawing. It didn't stop there, the pigs entered the water, obviously needing more than a drink. I'll tell you, I wanted to jump in that pond and cool down myself; but I still had a dead boar to deal with. Thank God the nights cooled down.
I'll tell you, that particular day I didn't hunt very hard. In fact, I posted up in one spot for a while, laid back and used my ears for a while. As evening was coming on, I could hear two animals slowly feeding towards me. When one was about 20 feet away, I turned my head to take a look. I got a good glimpse of one of the better bucks I have seen in this area, a nice 4x4 still in velvet. I could still hear the other one on the other side of the bush just to my left. I slowly sat up and then began to stand, low and behold, it was twins, big bodied mature bucks. It was so hot that they didn't go far, just like the pigs, and myself. Frankly I was soaking wet just laying there in the shade, doing nothing, except for staying hydrated.
My point here is that with these conditions, water is exceptionally important, and these animals simply can't afford to expend energy searching for food, as water is now filling their major needs, both as hydration, and as a method of regulating their body temps. Right now, food is taking a second or third seat. Those pigs lost a couple within their group. They had already watered, at least several of them had. Some were up feeding, while others were still laying around the pond area in what shady cool-er spots they could find. And after losing a couple from their group, they didn't run for the hills, nope they took cover in the brush and held tight to what they needed the most. They were survival mode, and running for the hills wasn't an option for them. We sat there jabber jawing (not quietly mind you), and those pigs put their fears aside for what they would die without. Boys, right now, it's all about the water. It could be a stream, a puddle, a spring, a small pond... it's all the same to them, and they aren't going to be traveling to get it.

Thanks KT. It is to hot right now, but it can still be done. I'll be firing up the Trager pretty soon and enjoying the plunder payed for with sweat, lots of sweat.

Bubble congrats buddy, nice to see someone out gettin it on in this heat.....def wasn't on Tejon!!!! Those pigs don't act like that up there, they have more springs, troughs, ponds, and running water than u cld ever imagine. Those 400ft plus deep ravines are much cooler than you think.... I've hiked them...
Going up Friday super early and going to try the same... Find a water hole and get as high as I can as go see as far as possible.... Maybe just maybe I'll get a glimpse of those ghost piggies!!!
