Well, had a good spring season... Didn't get as many as I had hoped, but still had a lot of fun. I ended up seeing a couple of bears with cubs, walked right up on one set. Momma and two cubs at 5 yards, was a little scary until momma decided to bark twice to get her cubs a moving. I also was able to walk right up on a mountain lion, got within 10 yards of that before it realized I was there and took off. Closest I have ever come to a large predator like that, definitely was a feeling that made the rear pucker. I hope everyone else had a great season.

Any of you members ever upgrade to shoot a bear or bobcat? Add on fees for these seem very reasonable. Are there enough bears to give you a decent chance of success?

Montana13, there are a ton of bears up there this year. The last two weeks of the spring season I saw 5 bears, 3 of which were over 350 lbs.

Bobcats yes
Bear's yes but I did not harvest one

I had seen a beautiful jet black boar with a very tan muzzle, he looked like a teddy bear, would have made a great rug, or so I thought. when I went back to get him a few months later when it got cool and his coat was better I came to the realization that it would have made a nice door mat, but no rug by any means...

Hey all,

Not a Tejon member, but just relocated to southern California and I am considering joining. In terms of the North v South membership packages, are there any significant differences (besides the # of acres available)?

Thanks in advance for any info, and good luck on your hunts.

Giant difference this fall in hunting areas, I chose to take a break due to rising costs this year overall. If u can afford it, I wld do whole ranch as it is simply one of the most amazing places in California!!!! I am extremely knowledgeable on every inch except white wolf as it has been limited in availability and low in hog numbers. I hunted south really hard this spring and saw fewer hogs than ever... even my go to spots were lil quiet.
South side has a giant area that has been carved out to help breeding potential, and north is higher in elevation with (in my opinion) better food availability...
They are both awesome, but for $ I wild do north... just my 2 cents...either way u will have a blast and see some really amazing stuff...

It's surely taking any pressure off :pig-laughing: them as getting up to any elevation will be near impossible with the shitty road conditions. That mud is slick, and saw some snow . Late spring and summer may be excellent.

Do you know your guide yet? I just sent a text to my buddy up there. No word yet. I will ask how things have been. I know it looks good up in BVS. Probably looking pretty green on most the ranch also. The rain has been great.

I did a private hunt there just over a year ago and it was an amazing experience.
Guide was excellent and we covered quite a bit of ground over the three days. Lots of rain the first day and super muddy. The property is massive and one of the most beautiful pieces of land in the country. Hard to believe such a place exists so close to L.A. Until you have been there it's almost impossible to imagine. The cabins are very nice and clean. First class in terms of hunting. Everything about the hunt was excellent and it cost the same as any other place yet offers probably the nicest accomodations around.
While we went to several places on the ranch the archery area was loaded with pigs. If you hunt with a bow it's a fantastic spot. Lots of opportunities. I passed up a shot the first evening because it was just too dark to aim well under the trees. Got within less than 10 yards but just didn't feel comfortable so I backed off. Second evening got into lots of pigs again and nailed the monster you see below. Whole new respect for pigs after this. That guy had armor about 2" thick and felt similar to plywood.
I used a 100g shuttle t broadhead with a 70lb. bow. I put two arrows in him. If I remember correctly the first was at 35 yards and the second was about 45yds. The first was a bit far back and penetrated several inches out the opposite side. My second arrow went through one side of the armor and penetrated about halfway. After we found him we did some broadhead testing at various distances. My friend shoots the same bow as me but in 65lbs. and was using a mechanical. That broadhead was worthless. It expanded upon impact and penetrated about an inch. You could see the blades on the outside of impact. It would have been nothing more than a flesh wound for this guy.
If I had a suggestion it would be to shoot two blade fixed broadheads and preferably single bevel. Younger pigs anything may work as I have had complete pass throughs on everything, but something like this the armor is really tough. You almost have to see it to believe it. Combine that with hitting shoulder and a combo that favors penetration is best.

good luck!
