Well, nothing specifically against KC, but that sucks.
Golden Ram did something similar at a couple of ranches. Now there are Rhino and Polaris tire tracks on half the ridgetops. And when someone sees tire tracks, those automatically become "a road"... then someone takes a jeep down there. Then someone else comes along in a pickup truck...
I know, it's wrong to hold the actions of a few against many, but in this case it just seems to pan out the same way every time. Time will tell, but allowing those OHVs in the ranch is going to open up access to some great spots that used to be foot-travel only... which generally means great spots won't be so great anymore.
I see your point phil, but taking the glass half full side, I'd like to think that most hunters will be responsible and stick to the policy of keeping them on existing bladed roads. If the new roads don't start in the first place, it won't perpetuate. I just see this as being much safer. You and I both know what happens with a big Dodge truck and little Tejon mud.
That sucks. I don't want to be glassing one of them awesome ridges only to hear engines racing up and down. I get that in SBNF over here every time I hunt.
Nate, you're right, of course. If any place can police its users, Tejon can do it. I just hope they'll stay on top of it and be as strict as they need to be. Honestly, the folks in trucks and jeeps already go places they shouldn't be, and there's not a lot being done about it. But nothing will ruin the Tejon experience as much as having a parade of OHV road hunters buzzing around from dawn to dusk.
Keeping it positive... it will be safer in the muddy months (for the people who own them), and may cause less damage to the roads.
Well, to all of you that have joined, I am envious. My dad (Sully) had the family pass for 2 years. He didn't
re-up this year because there weren't many alternatives for 22 mag and such varmint rounds in copper yet. Now that there are a few he's going to join again, but I turned 21 this year and I am no longer included in the family pass.
There are varmints everywhere if you're into that sort of thing. Thousands of Ground Squirrels and Coyotes. We have seen a few badger, but we weren't sure of the season so we couldn't shoot.
We have caught hundreds of fish out of Res 2 from the shore. I have had 35-40 bass days on that Res. You will catch a lot of 2 #ers, not much bigger. Largest I've caugh out of there was a 4lb. bass. We saw a ranch hand catch about an 8lber on a spinner bait. Best bet is spinnerbaits in the morning, plastics from 10 or 11 till sundown. Great Fishing. There are some BIG cats in there too!
Well have fun guys. I wish I could be there with all of you. Maybe I can convince my dad to give me some of his guest passes
Come on Jesse you hatin on the UTV's...whats the difference between that and a jeep? about the same size?
And yes I am correct....I have spoken to lana and barb and they are allowed.....And as for those few bad seeds...well they drive jeeps as well, I almost bought a and I thought I was being more concious of the ranch....its alot lighter than my 10000lb dodge ram diesel on those little dirt roads...As long as we follow the rules I think these will be just fine....also alot quieter..
So for all those out there hatin on the UTV's...come out and hunt with me.....some gorgeous country out there.....
I'm not hatin kcravnit, I'm hoping someone will invite me to go hunt with theirs on Tejon. Say a day of squeak shooting should be long enough to change my mind.
I agree with Dan. My buddy has a TRICKED out Sami (Which I love) and that thing is a mountain goat. No Difference between that "street legal" Sami and a UTV....Just my
I am living close to Tejon now. 1.5 hour drive on the weekend. I am thinking about getting spring access for my X-mas present. I would like to learn the ranch good enough, so I can go to the PigOramas in the future and drink Tequila with Speck and Grtwhthunter on Saturday night. (In place of hunting my butt off all weekend to desperately tag out Sunday at dusk!)
If I get access, I will come back to the hog forum and see if I can buddy up with some of you spring access guys. Also, this should allow me to come to this year's PigOramas to visit and drink Tequila with Grtwhthunter and Speck ...
