I bowhunted the north side yesterday, got there late (dang LA traffic) around 7am hunted until dark. Spotted a decent boar bedded under a rock ledge at around 9am, put the stalk on him with everything right but low and behold I pop above the rock at full draw and he's gone. Followed his tracks about 200 yards into a nice poison oak thicket and walked 3 feet by him without noticing, passed him and he bolted out behind me. Mid-day I drove around exploring some new north side areas for me, did some walking through beds and found me some nice remote glassing spots. Got into a bunch of elk and deer, always good fun.

Hiked a bunch in the afternoon and evening, found myself 300 yards from 8 good size sows fighting over a carcass of some sort, only problem is they are across the steepest canyon at Tejon I've ever been up against. At first glance looked like an easy enough 15-minute ordeal until I came to the top of the ledge and had a good 300 feet near vertical rock face to deal with both down and up again. Forgot to pack the climbing gear :lol bashing sign:so I decided to run back to the vehicle and race across where I saw a road around 500 yards from them, but I first had to find that dang road. 20 minutes later I was just rounding the canyon bottom 2 miles downstream, and I couldn't find the road back up leading to them. Darkness and game over.

Most of the sign I found was above around 5000ft, they appear to be concentrated where the ground is softer from recent snow... lots of fresh beds under the oaks on fingers and maybe 1/4 down from the top of steeper hillsides. Roads are in pretty good shape. Will be back up there next week!

Thanks for the report, I wish I knew the north side like I know the south it would make the extra hour drive worth it plus a better camping site would be nice to.

IF YOU NEED ANY HELP ON THE NORTH SIDE LET ME KNOW. I HAVE BEEN HUNTING IT HARD FOR THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS. SEEN PLENTY OF PIGS AS WELL AS COYOTES. FOUND SOME AREAS WHERE NOBODY HAS BEEN GOING. THE ONLY TIRE TRACKS I HAVE BEEN SEEING ARE MY OWN

Where do you camp on the North side, is there a designated Camp area? I will be up there next weekend and would like to hunt the North Side.

I appreciate your feed back.

I did not know where to camp on the North side either. Since I just sleep in my truck, I parked it next to one of the cabins for some Zs. You should call the office and ask - we would all benefit from the information on designated camping spots on the north side!

kcravnit,
Try in the foothills above the farming operation. I have been going in there at least once a week for the past month. I never see anybody and continue to come across my own tracks from the week before. I have been seeing pigs and coyotes on every trip.

hey guys well we were up on the south side all day friday, and took the polaris all the way to the top where the north side begins at the red locked gate..came down on the other side and sure as s**t we see piggies feeding on the hillside about a mile away. Its 1:00pm and they are out feeding like no tomorrow.....crazy...you dont see that very often. My take is that the south has been beaten up, since I have seen at least 40 pigs on the south side on every visit but this one...not a pig in sight...they have been hunted hard on the south side and they are stayin away from the light of day..The ranch is beautiful, and you really have no idea how big it is until you get to the top of one of those ridges and glass in any direction as far as the eye can see....We found fresh sign everywhere, but only saw about 20 pigs on the north side, so i will be on the north side for the next few trips... i might head up this sunday, well see if the preggo wifey lets me go play again....pushin my luck as i type this....
good luck guys and i hope to see you up there soon...Damian thanks for the company friday...even though you decided to sleep in...hahah...give me a ring maybe we can head up in a week or two...

Hatchet the spring access allows you to hunt varmints, and access to the ranch and then if you want to hunt pigs you pay 450 for each pig. I'll be heading up again to the ranch for the next 3 days to look for mr big this time going to hold out until I find him so theres going to be alot of observing going on until I find him which is fine.

Hatchet, I'm bow hunting so Murphy has had a role to play and most of the pigs that are the right size have been wet.
