Well guys, you provide lots of valuable information.
Thank you very much. My roommate is interested in going pig hunting, now we know where.

P.S. Jagermeister, Thanks for the tan Bronco Soft Top ;)

Bighorn, Look for the blue CJ8 jeep with bikini top if it's there we are in camp, we are usually down bear trap near the pump house across the dry creek bed.

I went up on Saturday afternoon for the evening hunt and found a nice new spot. Ran into 4 hogs at about 25 yds, but they boogied before I could get the arrow off. The big one was probably 200 lbs. Saw MJB and his friend Bob too. MJB brews some serious beer.

Sunday we saw no pigs out at all, the full moon must of had something to do with it. We did walk a few pig beds and saw a few shooters they just didn't give us enough time to line up a shot with the bow.

Good luck now that you have the whole summer to get it done.

Happy to report that I took my second pig this morning. After a few close encounters with the bow earlier this year, I realized I am running out of time. I switched back to the rifle. The hogs have been rather nocturnal in this weather and I can't blame them. Got one close to the road this morning. Evenings I'd still hike but in the morning I was worried about the meat spoiling if I'd kill anything far from the truck. It was the standard 120 pound sow, but it will be great eating. The first hog was so huge and old, nothing could be prepared without the crock pot or meat grinder! I will go up a few more times for rabbits and squirrels. All in all I had a great spring access and will do it again next year. What a beautiful and fantastic place.

We have discovered that even big boars will smell OK and taste good when feeding on grass, roots, shoots and mild leaves............not strong tasting leaves. The worst smell and strong musky taste are from the hogs feeding on carrion.......even the medium sows are stinky and have a very strong musky taste when feeding on carrion. Keep the trapped hog a few days fed on corn feed and molasses with cooked rice and then that is the best wild hog meat ever. This is in Texas............not in California......so it is legal. Come to think of it ............this is all making me hungry. Oh how I yearn for that Houston ranch. 'Nuff said.

Congrats on #2, Georg! Glad to know someone is keeping the Tejon pigs from getting tame!

Thanks Speck. I am wondering if I should become a road hunter. Humping the ridges is fine if you don't kill anything. I should just go hiking with a camera and then drive the road with a rifle. :lol bashing sign:

The area I got the pig is a well traveled and popular canyon. I think the pigs have gotten tamer as pressure is wearing off going into the summer. I would never expect to see a pig there early a.m. say in March.

I also killed a Coyote at 140 yards with my .300 win mag. the morning before I got the pig. Same canyon. I kept the hide - unfortunately it has a large piece of hide missing on one side. :)

I think I will go visit the rabbits for a morning hunt this weekend. I was about Tejon'd out last weekend but it doesn't take long at the desk to want to go back to the hills and canyons.

Count me in for all the JHO hunts next year.

Cheers,

George

I've got the next 10 days, or so to get this Tejon thing done and will be up there a lot. It's more fun with company. If any of you want to join me shoot me an email.
