Hey everybody well this weekend wasnt as successfull as it could have been, but we did see alot of pigs but not 5-6000 like they say they have...Overall we saw about 60 pigs... We saw one boar that was huge 300lbs or so....but most were around 100-150lbs. We didnt get a pig but the weather was the shits....friday night it hailed for 5 hours..Sat was cold and snowed at least 3 inches .sunday finally was a lil better. How did everybody else do?

You'll get one next time. Seeing 60 hogs is a very good weekend. Now you know where they hang out and how to get on them.

I was out there Friday thru Sunday also. I shot a pig that was about 120 lbs. It was hell dragging it out of one of the canyon, but it was a great hunt. Sunday morning we woke up with 2+ inches of snow on our tent. There was good pig sign all over.

The other two hunters in my party both got shots but didn't come home with any meat. There were plenty of hogs to hunt but after nearly getting my big truck stuck on Friday, deep in the middle of no where, we played it really safe on Saturday and Sunday staying on only the better roads. Next time it will definitely be worth taking a jeep.

If you saw 60 pigs you did pretty good. Why no shots? Too far? Too fast?

You'll never see a fraction of all the hogs on that place, even if you hunted it for a year. It's a huge ranch with some areas that are practically inaccessible, especially this time of year.

Savage99, congrats on your hog. Some of those canyons truly deserve the name, "hell hole". It's where I like to hunt, because the pigs are there, but recovery sure can be a drag (pun was like, so totally intended...and totally lame).

I will NEVER again hunt Tejon in foul weather season from a full-sized truck. I know the guides do it, but they know the roads there better than anyone... and they know where the bad spots are way before they get there. It's just not the right place for long wheel bases and heavy front-ends.

Hey speckmisser you are so right that you will only see a fraction of the hogs....We went all over from purdy ridge to the pump plant to the front side just off the to the right before microwave road. We saw lots of fresh pig tracks all over especially around the wild apple trees and all the acorns around on the ground... It snowed so bad this weekend, the roads were good on friday, but on sat and sunday they were undrivable....we went up microwave road and took the left before the cement plant....boy was that a mistake...we started sliding towards the edge and almost went off 200ft below....the way down was no better....we had to go off the road and try our chances on the grass....we made it but it was some scary stuff....And let me correct myself I am the guy that had the huge dodge ram mega cab.....Big trucks have no place on that ranch......i dont care what size tire etc.....

Well we did get some shooting but nothing that wasnt running or in heavy brush....I will be back in april hopefully I have better luck...It was worth every freezing second just to be up there in that beautiful ranch....
Thanks again to all who were there, everyone there treated us as friends...

Kelly, come join us in May...

The roads'll be dry and the hunting will be hot! Or, it should be anyway...

It's still an incredible place with tons of excellent hunting. One of my favorite spots in California, I will say that without further qualification.

KC, there's a thread in the pinned topics section that tells all about the dates and application process for the May hunt. Read it through real good, and if it sounds good shoot me a note. We'll get ya signed up.

Congrats on the upcoming youngster. That's a change for sure, but it's a good change... just keep in mind that life is what you make it. But yeah, you better get some hunting in now. Next few years will probably be spent close to the homefront.

KC has it bad. Hooked big time. Been there. Still there. Just get out of the truck and start glassing canyons. There are pigs all over the ranch. However, they are not always easy to spot. You need to be set up where the meadows meet the bedding areas. They will feed out right before dark and you can also catch them working back to the beds in the morning. Try to get to canyons that don't have roads nearby. These pigs have become very truck shy in the last five years. When the trucks start rolling in on Friday, the hogs take cover. I've seen pigs run from trucks that were a 1/2 mile away. And when they start running, they don't stop until they are long gone. It's a blast ain't it?

Why would you go on a hunt (especially a paid hunt)and have not shot the rounds you plan on using?????? I don't get it?

That would be the first thing I would do!

KC, check the link at the top of the forum for info on the May hunt. Everything you need in one easy package.

As far as shooting the non-tox, definitely need to get out to the range with it BEFORE the hunt...same as any time you switch bullets. A lot of folks just don't seem to get it, that different ammo can shoot to a different point of impact... even the same bullet weight.

Hey speckmisser i have been unable to find the info? Is it the one in the pinned forums? I saw that but there is no price, and what do we do about food? Do we put in for food or bring our own like any other hunt? Thanks again... And I cannot wait to get back up there does anyone have a map of the north side?

THAT is more pigs than I ever saw up there. Yeah......watch out for that nasty weather. If you go out there under dressed (did that one time) you could freeze quite nicely. Still I love that place but have to wait until next year when I can afford another Family Pass. Next year hopefully I will be p osting about another pig (That would be my second one and hopefully my sons first one.)
