Tejon WPMH - February 14

I just signed up for the Wild Pig Management Hunt at Tejon for February 14. Yes, it's on Valentine's day, but my wife is German and does not "believe" in Valentine's day. Wahoo!

I plan to bring my trad bow to take out on Friday, and depending what we see, I'll switch to rifle if need be. I also plan to get waaay away from it all. I am able to hike elevation and distance, and am eager to get me a pig!

I've heard mostly great things about Tejon, but I bumped into a guy that said that the WPMH is a ripoff (saw only old pig sign and too many hunters). Would anyone like to share any past WPMH (unguided) experiences?

So is anyone else on here plan on going on this hunt?

I sold it to myself ($500) by saying it will be an excellent opportunity to experience the wildlife and scenery at Tejon. I'm just getting stoked to go out on the ranch!!!

The guy that you bumped into, tell him that if he cannot find pigs in Tejon, he needs to start pruning roses for an adventure.......oh I forgot, BHCR can still be an adventure for him.

Cause I think I saw him the last time I was up and even he had seen pigs….

You will do well, its an amazing place with lots to see and plenty of options. PM me if you need any advice on where to start looking. The guide will point you in the right direction as well.

The WPMH is a great opportunity to hunt in a fantastic area. The guy that didn't see anything probably doesn't know how to hunt. But, the area is BIG and a 4x4 is essential if you want to get "away". Even with a 4x4, if there's moisture (rain, snow, sleet….etc.) you still have to be very careful - the roads turn to grease/snot, and a 4x4 is no guarantee you'll stay on the road. Hiking alone won't get you far, you'll first need to drive, then get out and hike. Good luck!

This is all good news. My buddy's got a Jeep we'll use, so getting away shouldn't be a problem. Good advice to ask a guide...

Really? In the last month (dec-jan)I have seen less pigs each trip up . Highly pressured the northside been . December management hunt 76 hunters 26 pigs..... the pressure has been on the pigs big time on the northside . They are scarce at the moment . Still feeding on acorns there still plenty full. Best advice get up early and be first to get in line to get your vehicle tag and get movin high and back its going to take you 30 to 60 minutes to get into a decent spot. Good luck cause mine suck the last month.

Every POR I went, the truck burned 2.5 tanks of gas in two days just driving around the ranch looking for signs and hogs. Many people show up in big full size trucks that stayed away from narrow jeep trails. Some people just park on the hill and glass back down towards camp. A few showed up in 2WD that can only take them a couple miles in from the gate. Some people drive to spot and start walking where no sign or no fresh sign of hogs. These are some of the things I saw people do that burned up alot of their times with no results. People that repeat these same things during all their hunt times and they sure will go home empty handed. Bottom line is if you have the right equipment, know what you're doing, know what and how to look for hogs, and have a little luck on your side, then there is no problem bagging a pig from Tejon.

guys pierpoint and i hate to burst your bubble but pigs are scarce at best... we practically live up there and north side has been pounded! between semi guided and guided and members the pigs are nocturnal and have moved to middle of ranch and south side around ghegus! i wish u best of luck and can help u get to where u prob will see some hogs away from all the traffic, and for all those reading this going on that hunt DONT bring a fullsize truck or 2wd truck... U will regret it...

Any advice for muddy conditions? We got a 4x4, shovel, do we need planks? Anything else?
