Texas questions

Well, looks like I will be headed to Austin to visit a buddy of mine in the Late January or early Feb time frame. He is pretty much a non hunter but really wants to give pig hunting a go plus he loves to eat any deer and pig I serve him. My plan is to head there from Thursday through Sunday or Monday and would like to get in a one day (Saturday all day) hunt in with a pretty high chance of both of us whacking a pig (or 2). Archery (maybe rifle) for me and rifle for him. Any suggestions on operations fairly close to Austin? Obviously I will be doing some research between now and then but I just thought I'd check if any of our Texas JHO memebers had a good suggestion as I know absolutely nothing about the area.

No suggestions on operations to look into or places to start huh? I did some web reasearch but just can't find much posted for a simple-cheap-kill-some-hogs kinda place. Most of what I find are operations looking to put you into combo hunts. I'll keep looking but please feel free to toss out any advice.

I didnt see your post until just now BDB, How far out of austin are you willing to drive? 1-2 hours?

The shorter the drive the better, but 2 hours I think would be the max. I fugure we'd only do a one day deal since my buddy is not much of a hunter but wants to try. I could be convinced to do an overnighter 2 day hunt though I guess. I have found a few places that are just land access for the day but I don't want to be too cheap and not see any game if you know what I mean. I'd rather pay more for a place with lots of hogs and a high chance of seeing some, hitting them will be a different story but my buddy has shot my rifle a few times and is a decent enough shot, especially for closer range (50-100 yards max) shots.

Are there any public land hunts for hogs in TX, or are they only found on game ranches?
