Hey Everyone,
Got back from a 5 day archery hunt in Texas for Deer and Hogs. Had this guy walk out at 26 yards the last morning of the trip. Nice quartering away shot through both lungs. Went 25 yards and dropped. My buddy thinks he went around 160 #'s. I think that might be a little high but won't argue. Also managed to get a young doe. Both goooodd eattin!

That is DocWells with me. He is the property owner. He is thinking about opening it up for a few guided or unguided hunts for a access fee. If interested PM him.

FForF,
I hunted a bit east of there last year and took a hog and a doe too. That doe was some excellent eating. That is a really cool pic with the arrow sticking out of the hog. As one who is just getting into bow hunting, can you share your setup? Bow, poundage, arrows, broadheads, etc? With a qtr. away shot I would have thought the arrow would have passed through. Did it hit some heavy bone, or did that bad boy have some nasty armor plating? Nice Job.

Hey SDHNTR,
I use a old PSE Intruder II (bought new 7 years ago) pulling 70 pounds with 60% let-off. Shoots great groupings out to 55 yards. I use Easton Game Getter II XX75 in 2116 with Muzzy 100 and 125 grain 3 blade screw in heads (they shoot the same). I took this guy with the 125 grains. I have an Ultra Nok 2 on the string, use a Tru-Fire Caliper release, and a Trophy Ridge Drop Zone Drop Away Rest (highly recommend) and Cobra sights. Although he did have some serious plating on the shoulders I didn't hit either. The arrow just nicked the back side of the front leg went through the ribs (broke one) passed through both lungs, behind the heart, went through the other ribs and lodged in the inside of the other front leg. Dockwells and I were amazed at the damage done to the lungs. They both came out looking like jello, totally mush. Docwells thought there was more damage then a bullet would of caused. He left a pretty good blood trail which I didn't need since I heard him fall in the woods and went right to him after awiting about 30 minutes. The arrow came out bent where he was banging it against trees when he ran and he fell on it when he died. Muzzy broadhead came out looking good and will be sharpened and reused. May have to figure out a way to put a notch on it. Be cool to harvest another with the same broadhead.

No pictures of the doe. She was young and dumb. I got out of my blind with about 5 minutes of shooting light left to put a stalk on 2 large does hanging at the edge of the woods and when I step around the big scrub tree I was using as my blind she was standing behind it out in the field at 15 yards with her sister. Watched me draw down on her and stepped sideways prior to taking off. Hit her perfectly through both lungs. She ran about 125 yards and dropped. Left a very heavy blood trail (followed it in the dark with lights). Arrow went completely through and hasen't been found yet.

Nothing like archery hunting (my favorite). We had deer running all around us all five days and the three of us each threw arrows. Been hunting this property with DocWells for over a decade and it never dissapoints. Will be back in November for the rut.

Thanks for the congrats everone. :JHP rocks:

nice pig! The reason the lungs were totaly much is think about what was happening with the broadhead as the pig is running and the arrow is slapping off of every tree in sight. Did you ever pith the brain of a frog in high school biology? When you pith the brain you take a needle, stick it thru the brain stem into the brain cavety in the head. Then you scramble the brains. That is basically what your arrow did to your pigs lungs with the added benefit of 4 nice sharp razorblades.

Good to see you got what you came after. The area your hunting is full of those buggers. We have property in Palestine just east of Buffalo. I also hunt just south east of there between Madisonville and Crockett.

Hope you do well when you come back. Shoot me a note and maybe we might be able to hook up when you head back. I will be up that way a LOT through hunting season.

Got to run.

Found my arrow last week that went through the deer. The pigs dug it up for me! Could of re-used it but they stepped on it and bent it.
