I'd love a system like this, since I live so far from my land and can't get there that often. The price is totally outrageous, in my opinion, but if they can get people to bite on that price, then more power to'em. I wonder if this type of system could be home-brewed fairly easily?

I'd welcome any ideas from the veterans on this site as to how we could make our own.

After I figured up the cost to develop film (my time included) plus the amount of pictures I couldn't use plus having to replace stolen units that I was sure the reason they were stolen was because of the flash. (I would say coon hunters)
Don't start throwing stones! I take offense to the coon hunters being portrayed in that mannor, I am a coon hunter and would never consider doing any such thing. If you're willing to drop 2500 bucks per unit that is your porrogative, Most of us here would rather spend our money wisely and build a unit ourselves that shows pride in our work and they usually are far superior than a manufactured unit at half the cost. Most of the manufacturers visit this forum and gather intell on what the consumer would like to see in a commercial unit and truth be known I wouldn't doubt if they visit here also, The idea has been kicked around here for some time now and will more than likely be perfected before it is given up on.

Right you are! That was not fair of me to say coon hunters - let me just say trespasser then -

And for the record I have spent many a nights running the dogs - and I am quite sure I have been guilty of following the dog and not the "No Tresp" signs a time or two. It can be difficult to teach a dog/raccoon to stay off posted property.
You are right I am sure you guys could come up with something better (and cheaper).

Hey Bigtruck,

Can you post some of the pictures that you took with this cam?????

I have seen this camera and it is pretty impressive. However, I have never seen any pictures that it takes. They don't even have any on the website.

Thanks!!!

This is the best one I have gotten so far - The resolution is set standard at 640x480 which is not 35mm quality but it seems to work pretty well.
I agree that they should post pictures on their website - But since they gave me a 90 day money back guarantee I wasn't worried about it. And believe me I would have taken it back if it didn't work.....

bigtruckmaker,

What is the max resolution? No offence, but 640x480 is considered pretty poor quality these days.

No offense taken - For a long range wireless camera system I am pretty sure 640x480 is the best out there. Off the shelf digital cameras obviously have a much higher resolution option but they aren't transmitting the picture away from the camera. So there is a trade off at this point speed for resolution. I guess I am willing to give up some resolution if it helps me get the picture of someone stealing my camera.
Obviously, this sytem was not designed to compete with high resolution cameras.
They said that was set that way to speed up transmission, maximize battery life and image storage capacity. I am not sure that I can change the resolution it would problably take someone that knows how to program.
I know they said that the image is being compressed to help with data transmission. I am pretty sure they also said that their image sensor has a higher resolution but in order to keep from taking forever to transmit an image they selected 640x480.
So far I am very pleased with the resolution and the fact I don't have to visit the camera site at all.

Bibtruck,

Nice picture. I was suprised that it was in color because of the infrared light it uses at night.

do you have any pictures at night - I am pretty interested in what kind of range those things get.

thanks

Hopefully, I will have some night shots this weekend - We will see how well this thing works at night - That is if I can get a willing target

Been running this camera for many, many months - same battery charge (using solar)
Getting about 60-100 pics transmitted per day - in the thousands now.
Camera is setup about a true mile from the base (which is located on my back deck)

Here are a couple of day shots -

dual lenses?!?! Pretty cool deal on that!! It's nice to see color pics in the day and still get good quality night pics. Is there an internal thermometer on the base or camera?? Just wondering how it gets the temp to print on the pic....thanks for all the info on these units Bigtruck---it's nice for those of us that can't afford the price to be able to live through you!!

The system has an internal temp sensor on the camera - It was a lot of money and I gave up a hunting trip to buy this system and it was worth every penny. I have been extremely impressed with it so far. Changing the camera settings from the base is what amazes me the most.

Sorry if you thought this thread got off on the wrong foot---the price tag is just a little different from what we are used to on JHO.

The system is extremely high tech and works great.
The thread was a little rocky at first, but it is all good now.
