So, here is the story:

Mark and I met with Tom and his partner at 4:45 as agreed. He asked us to follow him through some small roads and finally parked my friend's truck and jump on Tom's and his partner's truck. From the beginning it was evident that Tom knows his business. He was scouting the area and telling us what signs there were and where to go based on what he saw. Finally, by 6AM we got to an area at the end of the property we were hunting and he sees no signs of pigs in the water tanks where the cattle drink. As he turns his truck around, we see the pigs. Unfortunately, they are in a property he has no rights to hunt. He backs his truck into this canyon from where we can see the pigs and he tells me that the pigs will most likely walk into the right area. After about one and half hours of stalking the pigs, they finally move into place. We proceed to follow them along this ridge and the opportunity presents itself. now, watch the video below (watch it in HD). It tells a better story than me writing about it :). According to Tom, the hog was about 150 #s.

BTW, my friend Mark ended not getting a pig in this area. However, Tom scouted another area and let his dogs lose to find the pigs. Mark ended up getting a male hog larger than mine but I was not able to film it as I had to stay behind. They had to climb down this canyon to shoot it. It was a very nice light brown hog..

Thank you. I don't know the other guy's name. If you are referring to Tom's son, no he is not. Still working at the range.

You lined up that shot pretty quick! I haven't had the chance to line up on a pig, but it takes me forever to line up at the range. :) Congrats!

This is my first hunt ever so I can't gauge how quick a shot is lined up. Maybe it is the fact that I leaned on the tree? It was a great experience though. Now, ready for deer opener! I have the place picked and tree stand has been prepared. Saw a ton of tracks and even saw a nice legal deer and mountain lion tracks.

That's nice and close. From the vid I thought it was 150+ yds and with that fast shot I was thinking "that guys a scary fast shot....wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley." Nice shooting, regardless. It's always a good thing when a pig drops right there. They're tough critters.

I once shot a hog in the front shoulder from a sitting postition @ 40 yds in fading light. At first I thought I'd missed because it ran off and I was angry at myself. I went to the spot and found BONE fragments in the blood. I never did find that pig and spent the better part of the next morning looking. Blood trail petered out in heavy brush after several hundred yards. I thought for sure I'd find in piled up somewhere...no Joy.

Wild hogs have my undying respect for sheer toughness.
