The not-so itsy spider

Anyone have any idea what kind this is? It's about 1.5" across when the legs are out!

[Tree Doc]

Looks to me like a run of the mill Garden Spider. They hang big radial webs in trees and bushes. Nasty looking but harmless. Used to run into them when I was a kid and played Army with my buddies. You would be running through the trees with someone on your tail and when it was to late to stop you would run right into those big webs with a nasty ol' hairy spider hangin' in the middle.
