The San Diego Council of Bass Clubs voted unanimously to name its night fishing series "The L. Kevin Mineo Memorial Night Tournament Series." John Grabowski and Bob Dyer proposed the name change to the council to honor Mineo, who died in September of 2001. Mineo is former president of the council, an award-winning outdoor writer and a San Diego Bass Fishing Hall of Fame charter member.
He was devoted to the sport of bass fishing and worked to improve it on many levels. Of all his fishing interests, though, night fishing got his motor going like nothing else. He perfected techniques that other anglers have copied and use today. He also convinced City Lakes officials to open the lakes to night bass fishing tournaments.
