Hey- What's the beef?? This guy was upfront about where and how he took the bulls-They were legal and if he wants to be a SCI Sash Marching kind of guy- so be it!! As long as we all know what kind of crapola SCI does and uses as criteria for their hunts we can choose to belong or not. Me I had enough of them in the early 80's subsistence fights in AK when they told us to kiss off - but that's another story- in any event they be real nice Bulls.
Ahhh, "Mine is Bigger Than Yours" never dies, does it? start with the pre-occupation with antler size and those that need to measure everythhing. Add in a liberal does of outdoor cable tv and hunting videos with an emphasis on scoring every animal with a protusion. Even videos have a "see the 450 Roosevelt"
No one can just hunt for a big one. It has to score high or and maybe "make book". Anyone remember when you'd here a hunting tale where "Bob got a big 4 point" and that was it?
Now its "Bob got a perfectly symmetrical 33" 195 P&Y blah. blah, blah" The hunting product manufactuers also help pile it on. In addition to obsessing about a number, you have to have the products and when you tell your tale, you have to give an unpaid commercial endorsement to all the makers of the gear you wore and used. We see it even in the JHO posts. Is it a bad thing? not really.
The demand to score high in the books is being met by the market with the management of animals to produce these records. There is a cost in trying to get an animal, you either pay in sweat equity(scouting, physically demanding terrain, patience in waiting for the right animal or even in waiting years to draw the tag) or you can pay to access a place specifically set up to produce large animals.
I don't mind a description in detail on a buck. It provides a good reference. If a guy wants to pay $$$$ to hunt in a fence, no matter how big or small, it's his deal.
