The Ventana Wilderness, Silver Peak Wilderness

Just wondering if anyone has gone hog hunting in either of these areas. From what I understand they're public land and hold healthy pig populations? Anyone interested in exploring the area next year in a few overnight backpacking trips? I wanted to do it but would rather have a partner than go solo. I'll be in Hawaii all summer getting in shape and hunting hogs with my friends hounds...so I'll be ready for an adventure when I get back...

Hey Ev,

I've been looking at getting the horse up in that area. It's supposed to be pretty rough, but I do keep hearing tales about hogs coming out for those who put in the miles.

Drop a line when you get back from Hawaii, and let's see what shakes out.

I haven't hunted the Ventana for a few years, but it is ROUGH country. Very beautiful and remote wilderness. No motorized vehicles allowed. The use of horses will be much appreciated if you do get a pig of any size. Do a search on this site and you will find loads of info...
