The "Volleyball Bull" is back! ... Only this time...... he is all rubbed off.

As you will recall last time he was all in velvet just 2 weeks ago. The biggest one appears to have a tumor of some sort or maybe an old wound from fighting, or maybe a bullet or arrow shot that healed over. There are more big bulls in town than in the forest around here.

Man, those are NICE! How long before some yahoo lets fly with a shaft in the dark and takes it to an out of state taxi? I'm sure it would be investigated, but for some low-lifes out there, the temptation is too much. Has it happened? Prosecuted?

Not sure if anyone has ever taken one illegally or prosecuted (???), but G&F could probably answer that. We talked to a guy in town that works for one of the local tourist businesses and he said there used to be 3 bulls in this group, but the biggest one got hit by a vehicle not to long ago. They retire back to the national forest after they feed in town. I guess if a hunter was wise he could find their escape route and take one once in the forest. Our experience is after hunting season starts they vanish into the forest and you don't see any in town (at least during daylight hours). They get too edgy around people. Generally the big bulls go nocturnal at the start hunt, but you can see elk on the way into town along the highway at night feeding. A lot of elk get hit along that road. I came upon a couple of tourists last year that had pulled over along the highway after discovering a bull splattered all over the highway. G&F had actually pulled him to the side of the road and cut his antlers off after they did their investigation.

wow nice bulls. We have a 8 pack of them big boys in the valley. They like to lay in the tall grass by the club house. They know they are safe and do not get scared of us. I have been about 25 feet from them in the field. I stay on the road and keep a car between me and the bulls. I like wildlife but do not want to kit my butt kicked by them. lol
