I hunt in the piney woods, and have never had any problems with hog's
untill last year. Now their every were.Ive been to the lease three times
in two weeks and have killed three hog's all with in a hundred yards of my
deer stand .Now don't get me wrong i like too kill hog's and i like to eat them,
but enough is enough! These things have found out how to turn my feeder off
and on.my feeder has a switch on the bottom that turns it off and on
and every time you turn it on it runs for the set time .Ive seen them do it
if my feeder was any lower i dont think i would have a feeder ,the hog's would have it.I killed a hog last week that me and my eleven year old son couldn't
move.oh yea iam 6'3''and 250lbs,Big hog! I just want to know is there any way
to run them off or do i need to give up deer hunting and take up hog hunting?
or is there a blend of feed or slop they can't live without ? maybe i can divert
them elseweare. Thanks! Reloaderlen

Now that the hogs know where the free food is they are probably there to stay. I don't think that you can run them off no matter what you try. Maybe if you stopped feeding in that area then they might leave or raise the switch on your feeder so that they don't eat so much.

Hey there, Reloaderlen, welcome to JHP!

Them hogs are pretty clever, and as long as there's food coming out of that feeder, they'll be back.

They have crappy eyesight and great smell, so anything with a strong smell could steer them away from your deer feeder. Couple guys here talk about sour corn and even mixing it with diesel fuel. I've seen em get worked up over a pile of rotting oranges.

Oh yeah, and if you're anywhere in or near California, me and my rifle would be more than happy to help you out with your hog problem.

Reloaderlen,

About 6 years ago I had never seen a hog on our ranch, now its almost impossibele to hunt without seeing or hearing them. At first we were very excited to get to hunt hogs (mixes great with venison), but then they took over. Ive got hogs on videotape taking turns bumping the leg of my feeders to shake loose some corn. They did this over and over until they were full I guess. One of my solutions has been to shoot and trap every hog that I have seen. In the past couple of years my realtives and I have shot and trapped evry hog we could but I have not seen a dent in the population. Another one of my solutions has been to put up hog panels around my feeders. They are about 3 feet high and deer jump right over them. This seems to help from hogs making camp right next to my feeder all year, this at least keeps them moving looking for food. Its hard to imagine but a sow can have 2 litters a year and abought 8 or 10 in a litter, depending on how many she can nurse and survive predators (me). They multiply about as fast as rabbits.

Check out www.texasboars.com. You will find a ton of info there with guys from your neck of the woods with your same "problem." You might want to hook up with some houndsmen. Nothing scares hogs like a pack of hounds.

Reloader,

I think Gus is probably right. There's food there, and the hogs know it. As long as that food is there, they will find a way to get it. Hogs are about the most intelligent animal in the woods (brighter than a lot of hunters I know), so whatever you do to scare them off is likely to only be a temporary measure. They'll figure out a way around it. If shooting a bunch of them hasn't done the trick, nothing else is gonna work... all you'll end up doing is spooking all the deer out of your lease.

Best bet might be to pull the feeder, keep shooting them, and hope they find someplace else to eat.

Reloaderlen,

First, welcome to our second home. As you can see, there is lots of information and lots of good folks here.

Now, to your pig problem. I think I have the solution. Or at least a temporary one. The folks here like to get together at the drop of a dime. How about inviting us for a JHP gathering. I am sure we could put a dent in your pig population.......

Just a thought......
