Got an invite to go down to Victoria, Tx to help eradicate some hogs that had been hitting the corn fields pretty hard. We started around 9:00 and wrapped it up around 3:00 am. We drove around scanning fields out the window and stopped in a few places to call for a few minutes here and there. We got 6 confirmed kills on the first group. Then later in the night took out a single boar that is not in this video. 7 confirmed kills for the night.
Equipment used- 12.5" 6.8 SPC from Eric at Blackstonearms.com. Reap-IR thermal sight from Cliff at ThirdCoastThermal.com recorded with the MDVR from Ultimate night vision.
Attached to the muzzle is the Sig Sauer 762 titanium QD suppressor from Silencershop.com

What are the local Texans opinions of using 5.56 for hogs? You read and see big fans of it being used for them, however, i don't think it's enough.

5.56 is a very popular round. Hogs are very destructive and numerous. It can kill just like a .22lr CAN kill a hog with the right shot. But there are much better choices that do the job better, faster, and in worse scenarios/conditions and with worse shot placement. Some people still swear by it. The Barnes TSX rounds seem to be most effective in 5:56. Some land owners seem to like the 5.56 bc the hogs are more likely to run off and die away from their property. Personally not my style. It is pest control/eradication so we take less than perfect shots, but I don't want them to suffer. I'll go round up the bodies and haul em off if I have to. I prefer semi auto for hog removal for quicker follow up shots/ more ammo capacity. I shoot the 6.8. It has a lot more knockdown power than a 5.56, and is a lot lighter than an ar10 308. Also has more power than the 300 blk and the 7.62x39 and better trajectory. Maintains over 1000 ft/lbs energy out to about 300 yds with a 120 grain factory Hornady SST and a 16" barrel.
6.5 Grendel is another good option in the AR15 platform imo. Better ballistics than 6.8 out past 300 yds but less factory ammo choices and I don't reload. I also wouldn't ever really plan on shooting over 300 yards at night in the dark with a thermal scope.
