Kind of off the California topic but...Growing up, I went on boar hunts in Germany with my uncle and I bowhunt wild pig in California.  Look at these pics at this link though, WOW, Iran looks like it has some pure-blooded monsters!  They don't often grow this big in Germany, and they certainly don't have this kind of bloodline in CA.

With the religious restrictions against eating swine, I've heard this is an underhunted boar hunting paradise.  If it ever becomes more modernized/friendly and they upgrade to allowing bowhunters, I'll put this on my trip list.  They may have boar of this size in Turkey, which would be a better travel option now, but I haven't heard any confirmation on that.  Hard to find nice things to say about Iran, but nice boar!

sdbowyer,

When I lived in Germany near Trier, one of the Volksmarching trails around a local pond has some huge boars there. When the locals told us not to stray off into the forest, we naturally went looking. Some of them were the size of VWs. I never did have the money to hunt them in Germany, I was a poor airman in the USAF, barely scraping up keg money for the weekends. I wish I had taken some pics of them now. They were big, black and mean as heck. Not too many places I've been that when I heard grunting I hopped in my truck.

I agree if things were to change over there
that would be a hunt I would be interested in.
But they would have to change drastically. I
would be interested in talking to some of the
hunters who have gone. I bet the stories are
something to hear.

                         Good Luck to Everyone....

By the time things change over there those pigs might glow in the dark.      Scott

Where do I get a pig Laden tag? I think I'll stay away from the ladies while I'm there though.
Good luck to all,

Dan,
Don't bring up pigs and my dogs it isn't funny.  My male caught a piglet last year at the Payne Ranch that was with seven other piglets, someone must have shot the mother because she was knowhere to be found.  I think the only reason my dog caught it was he was in some thick brush and ran into them.  My dogs don't usually chase trash and as a matter of fact are scared to death of rabbits, must have something to do with the electric collar.

Couldn't be one of the women. Those critters have too many teeth and not enough hair.     Scott

According to SCI which is the biggest tracking system of big game records in the world all the top scoring wild swine of the world are from Iran and Turkey with India also close. It's funny to me that the common thought is that Russia is the producer of the biggest wild boar. They do not even have one in the top 150 listed right now! California has several listed bigger then Russia. Even Sweden, poland, and czek, and Austria have pigs listed higher then Russia. Truth be told Russia is not really even a player in the worlds biggest wild swine! When mongolia is included as part of Russia( not really) then they have several in the top 100. But I never considered Mongolia as part of Russia. Even though 3 of my 4 grandparents came from Mongolia and called themselves "Russians"

Rancho Loco is correct. I have seen some really beautiful Iranian, Iraqi and the prettiest of them all, Afghan women. My family likes to eat at different ethnic restaurants(Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Iranian etc.) and the Afghans are the prettiest cashiers etc. But to go back to the topic, the Muslims are forbidden to eat pork. In the southern most Islands of the Philippines, the Muslims are the majority. Before the Christians came in numbers, the wild boars used to walk unmolested in the village streets. Pakistan also has a wild boar infestation problem in their agricultural areas since it is also a Muslim country. Too bad it is really, really head chopping dangerous to go hunting in these wild boar infested Muslim countries. If only....Nah!!! I want to keep my head, thank you. larrysogla.

Trust me guys when I say this, If Iran was a safe place for Americans I would be the first to be a guide there. I just wish more people saw the pigs that came out of that country when I was there. Its a damn shame the radicals have control of it (hopefully not to long).

My next door neighbor is an Iranian. He went back to Iran for 3 months and brought back a wife. The wife was not very pretty but recently I saw a really hot looking gal going in and out of the house. And man she is hot! I asked my neighbor's wife who the pretty gal was. It turned out to be her younger sister visiting from Iran and still single. Oh and did I mention I have a date tonight?....Gotta go....don't want to blow this deal just because I'm late.....Later

What are they shooting those with?
Firearms are really hard to come by in Iran (Gov't is scared of overthrow), and also expensive. Also ammo sells really expensive, its like $3 for a shot shell and $5 for a signal 30.06 shell. Because of this people use the cheapest way, usually a pump shotgun or an old side by side. The ammo is generally a buck shot, which many reload themselves. I have seen people us ball bearings in the buck shots to cut back on some expences (hey it works).

Usually if 5 guys go hunting in Iran they only have one rifle/shotgun for the whole group, and just take turns shooting (unlike here where one guy goes with 5 rifles/shotgun
