Hit the road at 3:00 this morning and headed to a private ranch near Porterville for my third attempt in the past 4 mos. to put a hog down. This was my second trip to this ranch and my hopes were high. Spent most of the morning hiking the hills and glassing, spotted the first hog at 415 yards, considered a shot but it began moving so I made an attempt to cut it off as it headed over a gap but still a little on the slow side from a broken ankle I wasn't able to get there in time. Back to hiking and glassing, after about another hour as we were walking my buddy spots a hog at about 100yds. Agreeing that I would take the first hog he quickly pointed it out to me as I took a quick seat in hopes of using my elbows and knees as support. As I sat the hog began moving away and I had no choice but to take him at 120yds off hand with no rest, Hit her solid and dropped her. Props to my buddy for giving me the first shot as agreed photo.jpg

Thanks, It's a little on the heavy side and I would like to set it up with some longer bipods for pig and coyote, chambered in 308 with 180gr it definetly gets the job done. I have been fortunate enough to take 2 hogs and 1 deer and my daughter shot her first deer. All that meat in the freezer with just 4 shots!

Yeah "thewolfman" it definetly pays to hunt with folks that share a mutual respect for hunter etiquet, good hunting partners are hard to find.

Not really sure. My brother put this gun together for me. It has a composite stock with a floating barrel he machined for a muzzle break and the trigger was modified, we also spent countless hours testing different bullets, powders, loads, and bullet seating depths etc. until we found a combonation that really makes this thing accurate. If I do my job right I can't miss!

Yeah slant it's been awhile since I've put something down, maybe 2013 is my year!

Thanks to all for the kind words.

Was this on a private ranch you have permission for or a guided or access fee ranch?

Not my usual hunt of choice but it was guided. Been hitting public lands for archery deer, gun deer and pig but comes a time you just need to have something to eat.

You are right every time out you gain a little more knowledge. Only been out hog hunting about half a dozen times so I have plenty to learn!

Oh ok. My buddy just got a remington 700 tactical in 308 and it look very similar. I think 168 grain worked best for him
