Is that for sure, you know for sure that is true? I'm just asking because one time while going out to coyote hunt... S of a B if I don't pass-by a nice big looking super furry yote on the transition from 5 to the 14. Came real close to pulling-over and backin' it up to pick it up.

Ya happen to know WHY it's illegal?

(I imagine so as to not entice people into using their cars when a fluke oportunity presents itself? Since the state can make money of that animal?)

Certainly, I am no expert, but I would hazard the guess that it's about the condors and their food supply. There's also the overlap of hunting regulations;

GDog: It was hit by a truck about a quarter-mile ahead of me. I watched it fly off into the ditch and stopped and picked it up. It's road-kill; honest!

It's illegal for game animals in CA. Pretty sure the thought is that us deplorables would be driving old trucks with brush guards and double side mounted spotlights.
Not so sure about none game animals and don't think you'd get in any trouble for having a display case full of opossum skulls,,,have cooler will travel

If you don't want to deal with the beetles, just use warm water maceration - of course you'll have to deal with the smell, just put a lid on it and keep it outside. With bears and hogs it'll be a long process to degrease it - like 6 months.

Yes Non Gane road Kill, birds, Rabbits, and they do have Beatle and Larva food.

Probably wouldn't be a good idea with protected critters like raptors and such but i'd be cool to have a couple crow and other varmint skulls. Wonder how small a space those Beatles can clean out?

Might be able to clean up protected species and give them to schools/learning centers if you got a permit from DFW. Don't know if a permit like that exist but it sounds like it should. Might even be tax deductible at that point.

I take as muchof the flesh off as possible, then soak in hot water from the tap inside aStyrofoam cooler over night. Next day most of the remaining flesh peelsoff easily will repeat as needed, also us dawn to help with greaseremoval. Just must watch fragile parts. With experience it gets easier havedone cow, moose, deer, Bear, cow and turkey skulls. With birds you have to watch for thebeaks they will peel off, but if they do just soak them and they should slideback on.

Completely clean, free of Meat, it is the Larva that eats the meat. The worms crawl in the worms crawl out, in the nose and out the mouth.

Thanks Bankrunner did the 3 bears I posted earlier for some of my Cali hunting buddies still need to build them stands, they do not have stomach for it, I do most the work when we hunt

Good luck OPAH with the bug project would help out but am far north, looking forward to seeing the results
