Anyone going to Clear Creek this weekend? I'll be there late Friday night through Sunday afternoon. I plan on hunting up around Idria- maybe I'll check out the "PIG VALLEY" who knows.. Yeah I saw the weather, so what the truck needs some mud anyways.

My real question is, anybody ever saw turkeys up there? I'll take the bow just in case. It will be fun anyways.

Clear Creek Management Area, off of Coalinga rd. Between King City and I-5. I don't really expect to see anything but again it will be good to get out. Besides, I have to prepare for Aprils Turkey hunt at FHL.

Cheers

LeeChul, saw turkeys crossing the road up there by Condan Peak access but thats about it. Let me know how the hunt goes especially in that place they call pig valley. Me and Hog fever are thinking about getting a hunt together up there in the next couple of weeks. Good hunting! Ron

Two weekends ago they had motorcycle races in the Clear Creek Management Area, with nothing planned for this past weekend I thought we might have a chance. Not. There was bikes everywhere.!! I did find pig tracks, as you enter the valley, if you park by the lake/pond and follow the road - by foot - that goes along the eastern side of the canyon, and where it forks follow it to the left, it will turn into a trail. Follow this for maybe a 1/2 mile and there will be a short berm on the right. Once you walk over this burm you are out of Idria's self-proclaimed "Private Property" and back on BLM land. There are some open areas here and some tracks, but you would have to go during the week and you absolutely must be there before sunrise.

As for turkey, on Sunday morning we went up to the Sweetwater Springs access area and I saw the what I believed to have been the only turkey on the mountain. If you've been on this trail you know what I mean by reaching the end of the climb. Just as we crested the hill a turkey flew off, I couldn't see Jake or Tom, I called and he responded, and we played that game for about an hour, but he flew down the mountain into that private property that separates Laguna Mountain and Sweetwater, and never returned. Tons and tons of pig sign, we went there Saturday night and when we returned Sunday Morning there were new digs but no pigs to be found.

As others have said, this area is only good during the week.
Happy Trails
