Three recommended for Game and Fish director

1/10/03

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Gov. Dave Freudenthal on Thursday released the names of three candidates the Game and Fish Commission has recommended to head the Game and Fish Department.

The three are:

-Brent Manning, director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. He has also directed the Illinois Department of Conservation and a regional office of Ducks Unlimited.

-Dr. Tom Thorne, acting director of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Thorne has also worked for the department as services division chief and assistant chief, as a branch chief of the state's Wildlife Veterinary Research Services, and as a wildlife veterinarian.

-Jim Schwartz, deputy director of the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. Schwartz is a past natural resources consultant for the Western Governors' Association and natural resource program coordinator/resource conservationist with the Natural Resource Conservation Service/Soil Conservation Service.

The commission submitted the names to Freudenthal on Monday. Freudenthal plans to interview all three candidates before making his selection.

Meanwhile, Freudenthal will also be appointing two new members of the Game and Fish Commission to replace Gary Lundvall, of Park County, and Michael Powers, of Laramie County, two Republicans whose terms are expiring.
