Great story. That doesn't look like the elk habitat I am used to seeing.

I have been fortunate to help out on 2 bull hunts in the Owens Valley. One in Lone Pine, and the other in the Tinemaha archery bull hunt. 2 things happened the same during both of those hunts. 1) People drove straight into the elk and scattered them everywhere on the first day 2) The elk head to the flat, almost barren stuff when pressured.

First, congratulations! Awesome draw and a very nice story. Now, I'm really bothered by the fact that people in vehicles drove right through the group of elk right before the hunt. Do you think that was done by people maliciously? Since they didn't draw they were going to do their best to screw it up for the people who did draw? I'm speechless. If somebody did something like that to me before my once-in-a-lifetime-draw hunt, I'm afraid I would be sharing future hunting stories in prison.

Very Handsome Bull. Big congrats . The smile said it all. Great job.

I am headed there to chase a cow this coming weekend. I hope that the trucks will be a little more courteous for me.

Bodega- the P/U that did this happened to contain two knuckle heads that had cow tags, that I actually spoke to about 2 hrs prior to their doing it. They told me where they intended to hunt, and noted the elk where I already intended to hunt. I told them I intended to hunt that other area, not "their area" . My blood did boil as I watched it unfold, but I decided not to do anything foolish, remain calm and work around them.

I kept telling myself "they're just ingorant, have no clue". it kept me from going ballistic knowing they prolly did it on purpose.

Ironically, they were circling the elk in the desert on day 4, pushing them all over heck. I watched this from a hill-top and also watched where the elk bedded when they quit doing their "round-up" for the day.........that's when I made my move.....and it worked

BOW- good luck out there. If your hunt is with rifle, should be a quick one. If you need a meat cutter, call Dan Reade in Independence- hell of a good guy

Congrats again. From my experience you don't have to have brains to draw a premium tag, heck you don't even have to know how to hunt. Ed F

Elmacho, Thanks for the name . I have plans to jam up to B-zone the morning after but hey , you always have to be ready to alter plans . You never know how things will end up. There are 9 cow tags so I know I wont be alone out there. I have plan A B and C so knowing the guy in Independence might just work into one of those .
I cant hardly sleep, I fear that Im not earning my keep at work. All I can think about is this hunt !

So, this is it for me , I am off to packing my stuff ! I will post up late next week.

BOW :wavin hello:
