Well I found my way back to Jesse's. I had to add some dashes to my name to get something similar to my old handle.
I was sure jazzed to draw Tinemaha 3rd period cow. I am working on getting the freezer ready.
I have searched some old thread which are always a great source on Jesses. I hope that some of my posts have been a help to others in the past.

I did see a post from YORT , short on words but heavy on the info . Thats what I remember about YORTY. I hope to meet him someday over there. I know that he has met up with SteveK who lives in that neck of the woods.

Steve plans to meet me with his trailer there for the hunt.
It doesnt sound like it will be too hard to find some animals there ( but ya never know , I have said that before in the past only to end up with some tough goin' )
It sure would be helpful to have a few names of the current ranchers in the area if any of ya'll know them. I do plan on paying some visits , with my hat in my hand , in the near future.

Have to say that I am still stoked :smiley_yahoo:to have been drawn as I didnt pull an X zone tag this year .

I hope some of ya still remember me , I kinda miss hanging around the campfire here.

Take care ,

Hey BOW congrats on the tag draw. We changed software in Feb so the old passwords don't work. Email me and I'll give you a new password so you can post under you're old name.

BOW.......there are only 2 ranches in your zone and I guarantee you that either one will loan you a tractor to get your animal off the ranch.......if you were forced to hunt on either. Good luck.

Hey BOW, I drew that same tag but 2nd period. I will tie a big cow to a tree for ya after I'm done. My dad drew the same tag in 2006. All we had to do was wait up in the hills above Fish Spring Road on opening morning and when the rancher flush the elk out of the alfalfa field, they all come running up to us. My dad took his pick from the 100+ heads. Just make sure you shoot towards the hills and not toward 395.

My father and I both got drawn for the same hunt! Wasn't there only 9 tags? This will be new for us and we are still waiting for the hunt specifics to be mailed to us. We sent our money in and they haven't cashed the check yet. I was thinking of bringing my horses for the hunt, do you think it would be manageable.

No need for horses. All the elk are pretty much in the flat. There are plenty of roads to get around with a truck.

Same hunt Chuckar ? I am willing to share notes, maybe we can keep out of eachothers hair there ; ) As was said , I dont think horses would be needed unless you want to take a ride after the hunt up one of the many trails into the eastern side. That would be GREAT. Third period might bring some spooky animals so a horse drag might not be out of the question, dont know how far out they will spook.
It should be a good hunt, I hope to fill my freezer. I plan to bring a fishing rod too for after the hunt
( I'm ever the optimist )

Brett, congrats on the draw. Should be a fun hunt. I dropped you a reply to your email, but dunno if you saw it. Shoot me a line and we'll chat.

I came up dry on CA elk, again, and had to cancel my CO elk hunt, so I'm sticking to blacktails and pigs this season.

Jesse, I would be MORE than honored to have you join me over there. Really !
I really hope that you can swing it.
When I read your reply I thought that you were suggesting that you be a 'paid' set of eyes (see reply). I wasn't quite sure that I was ready to go that far. It looks like you might have hit a 'd' instead of an 'r' when you typed. ( Paid vs Pair ) LOL. Of course 'I' have 'never' made a typo like that ; ) If you believe that , you have never read my posts .
None the less I have 4-5 days earmarked for it. I will email U w/some specifics.

Nickman, do ya know the two ranchers names there, or any other info that might be helpful. If so would it be possible for you to email me ? It would sure be appreciated.

Speckmisser, are things shaping up yet for you to meet up over there ? Sounds like we have a "yep" from Jesse.

BOW.......Mark Johns is the alfalfa farmer who leases the property that the elk hang out in along the highway. That is a "no hunt zone" now, but they herd ALL the elk off of it every morning before daylight, so it is a non issue for you.

Ronnie Ybarrin leases the ranch on the East side of 395 and he has ZERO use for tule elk. You can pretty much do whatever you want to them on his place.......kill some ,wound some, if you get my drift.

Obviously, safety is a factor, but you would not likely be shooting in the direction of any buildings, so not to worry. 98% of the ranch is open, no locked gates, no signs,......nothing.

Have fun!

Both those guys are good people and you should go introduce yourself before the hunt. They can and will help you tag your elk. After I shot my elk, Mark drove up and offered to let me use his tractor to skin and process it, which I gladly accepted. I thanked him and then unbelieveably, he thanked me for taking one of those godforsaken animals off his property!!! Good people. Have fun. Ed F

Thanks all for the great info , I will use it. I am really looking forward to this hunt , the east side is some of my old stomping grounds when I was a kid and still is when I can get drawn for an X zone. And yep Hank, I did get you tag, I got your name scratched off nice and clean like, they'll never know.

Again thanks !
