I've once heard it said that the only way to test scent control suits, undies etc. is to fart in one and see what happens.....

But, what about using cow in estrues urine or other natural elk scents? ...any opinions or first hand or second hand experiences welcome...

wmidbrook,

I can't see the use for scent control for myself during Elk Hunts...I am usually hiking and sweating like a dog...and hunt with the wind. I tend to believe that if you are carrying any scent from yourself, your gear, truck, horse, camp, etc. an Elk will pick it up and run.

I have looked at a Elk dead away 50 feet with the wind blowing in my face and not moving. But I have seen Elk bust a 1 mile away running and only scent to blame. I have given up on any idea of scent control for Elk.

I'm not much for sitting on waterholes or in a tree stand all day long either. I tend to be hiking a ton during archery elk too. My stench would blow an elk out of the woods too regardless of how much elk pee drenched my boots, hat or whatever.

But, I'm thinking that on my setups, maybe hanging some estrues cow pee wicks to create "scent trails" could work to my advantage to steer bulls away from my scent trail. I'll try some of the Elk Fire...thanks CO.

Hunt into the wind. Don't fall for the scent market. It is a suckers market. You can not conceal your scent! Take some powder to check wind direction. Record typical winds at time during scouting. My experience for the last 20 years. I don't scent lock or use scent attractants.

Save your money on the scent lock. Spend it on roses for the wife.

Hell, your stench chases ME out of the woods from two states away!

I think some folks are missing the point of the question... not about scent control, but about attractants and such. No feedback here, since I haven't tried it, though.

Speck,

I guess I need reading is "Fun-da-mental" book again...I thought the question was about farting in those scent control undies?

"I've once heard it said that the only way to test scent control suits, undies etc. is to fart in one and see what happens....."

One thing I'm pretty sure about, but again I don't have no experience...is you can fart in them in the store's dressing room, but if you pour Elk pee on them, you have to buy them...

"But, what about using cow in estrues urine or other natural elk scents?"

Besides farting only works with Elk if you have swallowed Primos' hoochie mama...I think...again this probably doesn't count as feedback either.
Sorry,
Dave
