Just talked to the Ranch and guns are back in along with the keys working.

I have 400 rounds in 204 for the afternoon shoot out! The ground rats will be hurting and the crows will not go hungry.

I know Tony is a happy man now that he does not have to tend the gate! If you see him thank him for his gate service last month.

Was there any outcome to the closing? IE- did they find (or even try to find) the source of the lead? Last time we were up there Tony said that he had not seen an official come or go through the gates.

Anyway, glad the keys will work again. Plan to get up there in early August to drop a pig and make some of those squirrels pay for taunting us last time when we only had bows! (although we did stick a couple with the bows).......

Nope, I have heard nothing of a refund for the closures.

But thats okay with me, because for bowhunters that closure provided some outstanding pig hunting.
The two days I went up there and harvested a pig, there were 3 others vehicles on the ranch that I saw (including entrance, campground, and just driving around).

But now is the time to get up there and shoot some squirrels!!! The place is covered in them!

My family have all purchased memberships to the ranch for the past 5-6 years. We did not receive any money in return for the closure which has made us pretty upset to tell you the truth. Sure, if your a bow hunter, than it was a god send for you, but given that none of us are bow hunters (I have one and am in the works trying to learn to hunt with it) we should receive a pro-rated rebate for one less month. On top of it all, for business engagements, my father takes clients who operate some of the largest sporting goods distributors in the US to this ranch to be guided and had a party already scheduled to fly in during the month of June. No one from the Tejon had the courtesy to call and inform him of the situation as to whether or not they were going to fulfill the already scheduled hunt. He called and left voice messages three times pleading for someone to return his call. Their customer service has gone down, down, down hill since we first joined the ranch. Personally, I believe the real estate developers are in control at this point.

ND, some of the customer service issues are due too Lana's husband passing away from cancer, she took 2 months off. Mattie, who is new, was taking up the slack along with Barbara, plus deer season can be a pain to get everyone lined up, and most important the Endangered Species Act

being shoved down your neck will get everyone’s attention.

I would give the ranch a call and talk to them about a rebate or something special on next years membership, doesn't hurt to ask. I bet they would work something out with the right attitude. Sorry to hear about your Dad's dilemma, that is no fun.

Where is Tejon at? I've been wanting to do some pig hunting as well. I have heard many great stories about it but have never actually gone. How's the pig population out there? Any other useful info would be greatly appreciated.

Huntingbret,

The Tejon is at the top of the 5 freeway in the area known as the grapevine. If you know where magic mtn. is, its about 30 minutes north of there in the Tehachapi Mountains. It is a great place to hunt. The pigs are thick there and the land is some of the most beautiful land to hunt in California. Here is a link to their hunting portion of the website: http://www.hunttejon.com/ The guides are very professional and provide an excellent hunt. Good luck in your quest. I dreamed about killing a pig for a long time while trying to kill one on public land. That is, until I finally ponied up and payed for a membership at the Tejon.
