Well with the warm up here in Iowa I figured I better get out and do some looking. Even with the 45 degree temps the snow is still deep. The good news is I found 5 today. Can't wait for more snow to melt. Here are some photos. I haven't put a tape to it yet but it should be close to 70 inches.

Here is the second one I found in the same field, only a couple hundred yards away. This one might be 40 inches tops.

This is the 3rd one I found. If you look close to the center of the photo between some small trees sticking up you can see 4 tines above the snow. This shed was around 70 inches without the browtine. I have another photo of it on the ground after I dug it out. I'll post it next.

Here it is laying on the wood chip pile I found my last shed of the day on, it's a decent 5 point with a sticker off the browtine.

Here is the last shed I found today. It's a decent 5 pointer with sticker. I'd guess it around 55 inches at the most.

I also saw a hornets nest and snapped a photo of it. Thought maybe a few of you guys might want to see it also. I also found 3 dead deer today. A button buck, and what I bekieve was a small doe. I couldn't find the skull. The last one must have died when he was in velvet. He was a small fork horn.

I can't believe the number of quality sheds you found in one day! Congratulations! I could look all season and not find that many.

IowaShedHunteer-Congrats on the sheds!!Glad to see you made it out.No surprises here with your finds today.lol I'm looking forward to see and hear of many more finds from you.Be nice this year and find at least one spike and post a pic of it for us.
All the times I went out in the snow this year I wanted to find just one shed like the first picture with just tines sticking out of the snow.I think they make a great picture.I found one with just one tine sticking out.Wow!!
Congrats again!!

Great pics! Great sheds!

That hornets nest looks nasty. We don't have those here in North Texas. Are they aggressive?

Thanks guys. With the warmer temps melting the snow the sheds will be a little easier to spot. Travis yeah go ahead. Any of the photos I post you are welcome to use. I need to get a scanner as I have tons of as they lay 35mm photos. The digital camera is just so easy to use I don't take the 35mm anymore. Hopefully this weekend will bring some more success.

cool Iowashedhunter, thanks I'm sure you'll have plenty more soon, and I'll have none lol

I'm going out to check my game cam tomorrow and unless I get hired by Meijer tonight and they want me to come in for my first day of work I plan on spending the whole morning after I get back from classes at 9:00 and most of the afternoon looking. I have to find a shed this year, it kills me to see you guys find all these sheds on short little trips!

Iowa shed hunter-
Do the sheds look fresh or do they appear to have been laying for a while. I lived down here in central Illinois and see bucks running around with both antlers everyday. I found my first shed last year March 7th, so it might be to early here.
Cool pics

You guys are making me sick, we still have lots of snow, and I haven't had any time to go out and even look. Hopefully the snow will melt soon and I'll take the puppy out.

Nice pics and even nicer sheds!

I gotta add my two cents....man are those quality sheds and 5 in one day, I'm green with envy. It took me 4 years to find a half dozen of that quality and they're really not that big--probably 58" to 63" largest. You've obviously got a quality herd with many surviving bucks and are skilled at shed hunting. All I can day is keep the shed pics coming.

Great pictures and some very nice sheds to say the least. I showed them to Tyler earlier tonight and he said to say congrats. We still have a lot of snow and it is killing him. He wants to go tromping bad and it didn't help when I told him about the two sheds dropped on a hill that I spotted today while glassing a feeding area. I was working and didn't have time to go get them, plus I wanted him along as I figure they might be a couple more sheds sticking out of the snow. Looks to be a matched set as they are laying 8 -10 feet a part. Good mass but just to far to get a good idea on how big they are. I keep telling myself they will go over 70 but am worried about ground shrinkage when we do go get them. LOL

It's the same feeding area where I found the 3 sheds with one of them have the extra point coming out of the pedicle. Should be a great area to walk once the snow goes as I had seen 8 other bucks still carrying there when I found the 3 sheds.

My 4 year old daughter got a kick out of the hornet nest so thanks for posting that. Her favorite shed was the little one though. She said it was her size as she likes the smaller forkies, 3 pts we find and likes to hold/look at them.

Four out of the five were really fresh, the other might have been on the ground for a year. It was covered up pretty good in the chip pile. The other two I found the next evening were also very fresh. I'd guess maybe 30% of the bucks have shed in my areas. The next month should really be good here. The snow is really melting. Hopefully the food sources they were using before, they will return to now. I went to a sports show here in Des Moines yesterday and had a couple officially scored. The non typical went 102 3/8 and the typical went 91 1/8 net.
