Does anyone know what the topo quads are that will cover the north are of Tejon? I'd like to get a good look at the area (at least on a topo) before we go in March. It will be my first tiime at the Tejon Ranch. Thanks, appreciate any help.

Go to mytopo.com and you can build your own map of the North side of the ranch.

Thanks for the info. I've been to the topozone.com site and pulled up the "Tejon Ranch" topo, among others. Unfortunately I don't have anything to tell me where the boundries of the Tejon Ranch are (or the north side for that matter), so I don't know which topo quads to buy for the north area. I will be able to buy a map from the ranch when I check in, but I wanted to pick up some topos before going so I could do a little reconnaissance, even if its just on paper.

We have a great map store here in north San Diego, but I need to know which topo quads cover the north area. Or better yet, does anyone know where to get a map that will show those boundries?

Thanks,

Neil

Neil,

I don't know if any of this helps, but Jesse has a pretty good info page on Tejon. I think the only map he has available there is for the South side, but it does have other info, including where to get maps. Check it out here.

Thanks Speckmisser,

I've checked out that info and you're right, there's only a south side map for now. Jesse has a request for north side map info there, and I plan to "answer the call" when we return. I also have a call in to Barbera at Tejon Ranch for topo names on the north side, but no joy yet. Sounds like I'll just have to play it by ear.

Neil, worst case, you can buy a map when you arrive at Tejon to check in.

They definitely have them, but I don't know if they're mailing them out.

Update...Barbara from Tejon Ranch was finally able to get back to me. Unfortunately she was unable to come up with the names of the topo maps for the north area. However, she said that she would make an exception and mail the maps to me (assuming that I put the check in the mail for the maps). These are the same maps that you will buy when you check in, so I should be able to figure out which topos I need. This is the third time I've spoken with her on various subjects, and I have to add that she is about the nicest person I've ever dealt with!

Thanks for help folks!

Lana is new there and is also VERY helpful. Great people by my experience. I am going to take a whack at a hog the end of March.

Here's an update on what I've found out for the topo maps of the North side.

These maps cover the North Area:

Tejon Hills
Tejon Ranch
Pastoria Creek*
Winters Ridge*
Liebre Twins*

In addition, the following two maps cover very small slices on the north side and east side of the North Area (too small to justify buying, at least for me):

Cummings Mountain
Tylerhorse Canyon

The maps with (*) share a boundry with the South Area.

Barbara sent the new maps to me that were created this year, along with an old map just for grins. I noticed that the boundries have changed a bit. The newest map has more area on the east side for both the North Area and the South Area. FYI...

I have a 1mb pdf file of the Tejon North area. I can e-mail it to you if you give me your address.
I was there 3 weeks ago in a archery-only area and saw lots of pigs, but couldn't get closer than 60 yards. I think those pigs even know what your using to hunt them with and stay just far enough away!
