I have a TVM early virginia flintlock I want to hunt with this year. I have some trouble with mis-fires and was told drilling out the touch hole would help. I was curious was size would be effective to drill it at? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi MS!

On the topic of touch-hole liners, I found that if I am making a stainless liner for a smaller caliber rifle that shoots 3F powder, a 1/16th hole is usually adequate (.0625 diam.) or a #52 drill (.063).

If the rifle is of a larger caliber and 2F pwoder is burned, I will usually make a liner with a larger touch hole. I would suggest that the lower limit be 1/16th, and a larger limit for the hole is 1/10th (.100 diam). A #40 drill gives .098 diam.

Remember, however, that the larger the hole, the more blowback you will have.

Hope this helps!
