I recently purchased two Cabela's Outfitter Series IR trail cams. I placed one one in a creek bottom on my brother's property (Solano County) to see what was walking around. Four days after placing the cameras, I went back to check the camera. Upon walking up to the camera, I noticed that the camera was facing down! For those not familiar, they come with a metal plate that screws into the tree and the camera mounts to it. It was extremely solid. I also placed the included strap on it as well as a python lock for added security. Well, the cameras have a screen for instant viewing so I turned it on and this is what I found...

Turns out that he was curious and pulled it down. After that, I have about 1000 photos of grass on the ground blowing in the wind. Hopefully I can catch some more pics of him and some nice bucks.

Kewl pics. Them bears have such good sniffers they seem to find our cams all the time. They also seem to spot new stuff or something out of place it seems. They will walk into a clearing like yours and go right for the new cam. At least he didn't try to eat it and break it, that's happened to a few cammers. Wait till they peek in at the camera lens, that is a creepy pic.

Nice!
How do you like the Cabela's cams so far? I am thinking about getting one with my Cabela's bucks.

So far they have worked pretty well. I have only had them for a couple weeks so the jury is still out. I have captured some deer and coyotes as well. The night pictures are decent, not great. I also have some action shots so they seem to be coming out of sleep mode fast enough. They recommend pro SD cards which might write faster than the SD cards I chose (sandisk 32 gb). I have no idea how they would stack up against the more expensive reconix cameras, I can't afford that. For the performance at $199, I am happy with the purchase. I also bought the python lock which may have kept that bear from ripping the cam off the tree completely.

Thanks for the info! I am looking at the lower end one and the reviews look good so far and their customer service is always good. They are also running a deal so that doesn't hurt either.
