My guess is the ridge in this pic is the magic ridge. I found them there in June last year or 2006; my feeble brain can't remember exactly. I ended up sticking a large boar there but didn't find it. I think I stuck a shoulder blade. My broadhead broke off right where it screws into the arrow. I also found a great bedding area there that weekend.

Great writeup tra. Once again you had a blast. Your description came to life in my mind and I felt like i was right there with you. That was pretty cool man. You sure have a knack of telling a tale.

The experience and the memories is what it is all about. Take care buddy.

I'm glad everybody had a good time but I was wondering something. I got my ass chewed a few weeks ago on another thread by a whole pile of bowhunters for saying I thought 50% of archery animals are lost. So...was this trip just really out of the ordinary??? Special circumstances maybe that caused the 0 fer 2 outing and a story of another hog that was hit and lost on the 'magic ridge'??? So, just so I don't throw out these wild, false numbers in the future, I'll try and pay better attention. For all you math experts out there, what exactly is the percentage when you divide 3 by 0?

Jason my friend, it was a tough hunt weekend for everyone, hogs were being very nocturnal, they were bedding right before light and would start moving agian just at last light in the evening, so most of the time you only have a 2 minute window to just at light and dark to get an opp. to wack a hog if they are not moving during the day. with over 4000 acres of prime pig habitate to cover in a couple of days they could be anywhere at anytime, but with Choppers and Pigig,s help and knowlege of the ranch they will always point you in the right direction or spot that usually good for hogs being around, so we all did our best as bowhunters to bring home the bacon.

like i said i have only been wild boar hunting a few times and all my hunts have been at Choppers place which is like home away from home for me, i am just starting to understand more then ever how to hunt and pursue wild boars of trophy caliber on that ranch and cant wait for another opp. in the future to hunt there agian, i am obsessed with the thought of wacking a wild hog now more then any other game animal, after all the years of hunting whitetail deers back east which is suppose to be tuff i feel that was easy compared to hunting a mature savy wild boar, so wild pigs are on the top of my list and mind until i wack one with a bow, man, they are so smart, who would think until you hunt them..............tra

Bayedsolid, no pigs were shot or wounded by anyone that weekend, just a couple of misses!

i am having a disc made up of photos from our hunt and the ranch to share soon with everyone.

Great write-up Tra!

I really enjoyed my hunt at Chopper's place last Mother's day. I would have loved to join you guys for this hunt. Chopper runs a great show there and you can't beat the price with the quality of friends, food, and lodging.

Be real sad to see it go...

Do you have any idea how many more pigs have been wounded and not found with a gun than with a bow? If your too gurly to hunt with a bow then just zip it!

I can't e-mail through this forum. Send me an e-mail to mattys281@yahoo.com & I'll reply.

Also, make plans for that javi-hunt in January. You will see coues deer, garaunteed, probably some desert muleys, possibly mountain lions (which you're allowed to shoot in this state, if you buy the tag o.t.c.) & possibly desert big-horns. I'll post some pics later to entice you further.

None of this "I have to work weekends" stuff. You've got 7 months notice. Besides, you only live once & I'd much rather have my huntin buddies standing around my grave crying than my boss.......

Later, buddy.

Matt S.

P.S. You think about it too Cecil, Alan, & any of the other nuts that were at camp with us.....

These are all trail-cam pics from a spring about 4 miles from my front door.

Airline ticket & hunting tags would be your only expense. I'll pick ya up at the gate.

New years day is on a Thursday next year & I'm planning on taking off the Friday after & the whole next week which will give me ten days to play. Might lose a couple to weather, but I'm keepin my fingers crossed. What else can you do?

What in the hell is that thing in the middle picture?[/b]

That is a coatimundi, or more commonly refered to as a coati. RElated to racoons. From what I hear, they tast just like chicken..... Or do chickens tast like coatis? Can never get that one figured out.
No tag required, considered a fur-bearing mammal. Not sure what the season is on them. I also have trail cam pics of a jaguarundi at that same spring. They are wild cats that are about twice the size of a house cat, much smaller than a lion. On the endangered species list, you don't want to go flingin arrows at them.

It's difficult to see it's face in this pic, the camera is low res. I've got better cams now, but waiting for it to dry out before going back to the spring. We were gettin rain & snow last week...
