Does anyone know if triple seven powder can be used the same as pyrodex?
I just bought a T/C Omega 50Cal and it has a max load of 150 gr. of pyrodex.
Triple Seven is supposed to be a hotter load. Can I substitute Gr. for Gr.

NO,No,no !!! 777 is way to "HOT" for grn for grn.Start at 90grns and work up by 5 grns. You will know when to stop as Your groups will widen out. Most "Smokepoles" shoot 100 grns of "777" well.

Grease up Your breechplug and nipple liberally, and handtighten.I take My "Smoker" apart after every 6th. shot and clean.Sure makes it easier at the end to take apart and clean and store for the day.Good Luck,oh yea, throw Your Pyrodex Sellect away, after shooting "777" You won't "Need It"any more

Thanks az!! The reason I am wondering is that this gun is supposed to shoot bullets at 2100-2300fps With 2, 50gr pellets of triple seven I am only getting about 1750. With 90gr of pyrodex I am around 1550-1600. Not to Impressive!!! The cleanup is alot easier but my groups are not to good either. I will keep on working on it!!

saskhunter, you're gunna love your Omega! I also got one a little earlier this year, for a Muzzleloader Muley hunt in Colorado in a few weeks. Prior to buying the Omega, and after, I did plenty of research on Muzzleloaders and loads, as I'm sure you have, and have also decided to use 777 powder (besides, no pellets allowed on muzz hunts in Colorado). All of the guys I've talked to or read posts of love the stuff, no complaints at all.

I've worked up a load to 110 grains of ffG 777 powder along with some 245 grain powerbelt aerotips. 1 1/4" group at 50 yards, three out of four holes touching. 4" groups at 100 yards (but I'm sure the gun shoots tighter than that at 100 yds, I'm shooting iron sights and sure that it's me who's off there).

Azbiggame is right on about starting at 90 grains and working your way up to your most accurate load situation. Don't take my word for it, but I believe 120 grains of 777 (by volume) is equal to 150 grains of pyrodex or black powder. I haven't loaded mine to the max and hope not to ever need to. 110 grains is plenty good for my smokepole.

Definitely use an antisieze lube on the threads of your breechplug and DO NOT TORQUE IT IN. Just a scosh more than hand tight is plenty tight.

When sighting in, I would recommend brushing the barrel after every shot (without removing the plug), and dumping out the scrubbed residue before you load your next shot. I tried sighting it in by cleaning after every 3-4th shot and didn't get decent groups until I started shooting with a relatively clean barrel every shot. These are new barrels, maybe that's part of the break-in process (that they're real tight in the chamber area). I remove the plug and solvent clean the barrel after about 6-8 shots.

One last item; I know T/C has commercials and prides itself on how quickly you can clean the Omega, and all, but definitely don't think you don't need to remove it from the stock to clean it. Powder residue will get down into the camlock mechanism, and will gum it up, even rust stain the hinge area on the stainless barrel. I know, it happened to me the one time I didn't remove it and just wiped the action clean. Remove it and clean it throughly when you get home from the range.

Have fun!!!!!

Thanks for the info!! I have loaded up my omega with 2 pellets of 777 and 220gr
PR dead center bullet. WHAT A COMBO! Sub 1" groups at 100 yards. I tried a
ffg and fffg loads and con't touch this one. I am going to try 200gr bullets though.
I have this load flying at about 2100 fps. Pretty Good! But I think this this gun can do better. I also am going on a Muley Hunt here at the end of sept. I hope to be able to put this combo to the real test. Thanks for the info and good luck on your hunting of all sorts this fall!!!!
