Panasonic for 2 huge reasons. 2x more zoom and IS (Image Stabilization).

2x doesn't seem like much but when you can't quite fill the frame with a 10X you'll wish you had a few more Xs in zoom.

IS makes a world of difference from fuzzy pics to those eye popping sharp ones.

Not having read the reviews I'm not sure about Panasonic's rep in dig cameras. Customer service okay?

D, I would agree with Jesse. The only reason to go with the Olympus is if you are going to be having any large prints made(16x20). If you are just going for web and 4x6 prints you won't notice to much difference. That IS at full zoom is going to be a very handy tool.

I'd get the panasonic if it was me. There is nothing wrong with the Olympus, but I think the IS and 12X LECIA glass speaks volumes over that 1 extra megapixel.

The one thing that I wish the panasonic had was a 3:2 ratio image capture. In order to print 4x6 you will need to crop in a 3:2 ratio.

Another plus for the Panasonic is you can get up to (err down to) F8 in aperature. That will definitely be an advantage over the Olympus in landscape shots.

If possible, save your money a bit longer and get the FZ10, or better yet FZ20!

I have a C-750UZ and they are nice, but if I were to buy again I would get the FZ20! The 765 has less features overall than the 750!! I guess that's why it's cheaper too.

Good luck!

on 8x10 you won't notice a diference between 3 and 4 MP. we have an olympus 4MP and like it alot, but ours only has 4x zoom...which blows!

My wife likes to take pics while I hunt/fish, so I will be getting her a connon digital rebel and a few lenzes...I put together a package at amazon.com with the dig rebel, 1gig microdrive, and some other goodies for 995.00. If your wife is serious about photography, think about the extra possabilities of the digital SLR, 2X the $$ 10X capability.

Gang great replies. I like the last one.

However, I want to hear what those guys think of the way Panasonic performs
indoors on people - with low light. Remember what the camera reviews said:
yellowish skin, low-light indoor shots = camera doesn't perform well...???
Outside nature shots are great, but I HAVE to have something that is great
in a variety of lighting/scenery and settings! Shots need to be crisp and
true to color of an object.

I think we need a camera that is great for
first-time-owners-of-a-more-complex-camera amateur photographers - with room
to grow/learn. But...not too much. I have heard from several people,
including some of those camera reviews, that higher level DC's can be very
complicated to use and thus creating frustration and, ultimately, lack of
using the darn thing.

Go ahead and paste this on your post if you want. Maybe that'll get them
talking' our speed

Quality glass makes or breaks a cam in regards to indoor low light shots.

Also, if indoor low light shots are going to be a high priority, you will probably want to invest in a good flash (hot shoe). In my opinion, digicams (CCD) just dont do well with low light shots. Look for a flash that you can bounce, and that will utilize TTL metering through the cam (most hot flashes do this).

Hey D, that sounds like a good move.. let us know how you and your wife like it.

Piker, I would be interested in seeing how your setup works. (especially with the TC) post up some photos after you get it broken in.
