i got lucky and was drawn one year. i was tag #2. the left side of this elk was huge, but the right side was a little short. if both sides would have been equal, this bull would have made book.
Prohunter Congratulations. I think any Elk in CA is a trophy. Did that Elk come from private or public land. I had a friend who hunted there and he said with the first shot all the Elk ran onto private property where he couldnt get at them. Fubar
after hours and hours of scouting, phone calls, and begging with land owners i was allowed to hunt on private groung with a $500.00 trespass fee. i sold my motorcycle. i hunted at the end of ....... road. sorry secret spot. a couple ranches away there is a bull that would be close if not more than the current california record. my buddy and i have tracked this bull for a few years now. if one of us get drawn we may have a crack at him. most public ground is on carrizzo plains. i did not see a single good bull there. most of animals are on private ground and they want a hefty trepass fee. i got lucky. i think that land owner knows want they are worth now and it would cost a few thousand more to get on his property.
Prohunter,
I applied for a La Panza antlerless hunt this year. I know the area pretty well, I have shot a couple of hogs near the carrizo plains. Recently we have found 2 dead cows, the victims of poachers. Did you see any cows on public land. If so maybe you could key me in to a general area. When you hunted it, how many landowners allowed access for the hunt. Last year there were four.
thanks
Jason
