Love hunting Javelinas, they're taylor made for bow hunting. Thought I'd head to south Texas over Valentine's Day weekend (very supportive wife) and have a go, and was lucky to whack two stinkers. First stalk was about 75 yards (favorable wind), came about slightly above him and drilled him at less than 10 yards. The boar dropped right there. Second one was another, slightly shorter stalk, and about a 15-20 yard shot, she ran about 10-15 yards and piled up, but was still alive so I let the air out of her with a second arrow - just to make sure.

Wild1,
Congrats on sticking those two stinkers. You mind me asking what arrows/broadhead combo are you running?

Yota, I was using Carbon Express Maxima Hunters, and had no complaints with them. For the last few hunts, including this javelina hunt, I've been using Gold Tip Pro Hunters. Both arrows are awesome, but they're a little pricey - you may want to find an arrow that works for your set-up that's not so expensive. I almost always use Slick Trick broadheads, mostly the magnum 125's, which is what I used on this hunt. The ST's seem to fly great with my set-up (Mathews Z7 @ 67lbs.) Bruce, yes they're edible, but you have to be very careful - they have a musk gland, and if any of that gets on the hide/hair and/or meat, it's not gonna work. Guys who live in Texas, Arizona or NM, that they hunt javelinas a lot, sometimes don't even bother with the meat - mostly because it's such a small amount. I don't like to waste anything, but it is a small amount for the time it takes to prepare it - which also has to been done carefully.

Thanks for the reply,
I was hoping on getting to AZ in January for Javi this year with the bow but it did not work out. I am saving my pennies now for next year but was interested in what folks were sticking them with. I have been running the Easton Flatlines and have been happy with them but they seem a little lite so I think I will be moving up my field/broadhead weight. Thanks again for the info.

Bruce,
I second that they are edible, but don't contaminate the meat. My AZ buddies instructed me to only touch the knife and meat, while they helped on pulling back and handled the hide. The meat was great, very tasty, mild and great for pulled pork sandwiches.
