This guy stepped out from a tree line behind the house while woodpusher was out feeding his dogs. A .357 S&W at his side brought him into bbq range.

We stuffed him full of apples and onions and ornages and slow cooked him @ 200 degrees for about seven hours. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM good!

After dinner WP got the chance to take a young man Drew 17, and his dad Christof visiting from AZ on their first pig hunt. Drew has been doing battle with evil mr. Cancer recently sprung from remission to invade his active young teenage lifestyle. Radiation and Chemotherapy have controlled his activities for the past couple months in fact he had chemo therapy on the morning that he flew in from Tucson.
He really wanted to get on a hunt but for now we wanted to keep it a surprise. He was enjoying some plinking and hanging around in the countryside with us for the holidays and WP was determined to get him onto a pig. To watch him eat and interact with everyone you would never suspect the depth of his inner struggle. For a young man of 17 he carries himself with quiet dignity. He [pitched in to help with chores around the place all weekend long and never asked for anything so after the great bbq on Memorial day W.P. told him it's time. The sun was starting its decent and only about 90 minutes of shooting light remained in the day. Off they went up up and up over the hill.
I'm telling the story in the third person as was told to me so I hope I do it justice. W.P. said it was the best spot and stalk hunt he ever had. Drew was speechless but had the biggest smile you ever saw
As the group ( WP, Christof, Drew and Ofer ) crested the hill they spotted a group of hogs in the distance WP judged thewm to be about 1/2 mile away and shooting light was down to 40 minutes. WP and Drew picked up the pace to double time down across the hillside to within 250yds. A boulder field gave them cover as they continued to hump their way closer. By now Ofer and Christof had found good vantage points up the hill behind the hunters to watch the game unfold. slipping from rock to rock to maintain cover the two moved to 200yds and the end of the boulder feild. Now they had to do the belly crawl and as they got to within 150yds. they were happy to find the group still rooting around the meadow. WP asked Drew if he was good from the distance. Light was fading and Drew smiled and readied himself for the shot.
He put the crosshairs on a nice boar and squeezed off the shot. It was a money shot and took both lungs and the heart. The pig ran a twenty foot hard right hand circle full speed and crashed almost exactly where he was hit. Ofer and Christof latched onto a leg each amnd began the vertical climb back. Fortunately the pig was only 150lbs light and the boys were riding such a high from the hunt it made the hard work into a fun time. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Congrats to the whole group... to you guys for showing this young fella such a great time, and to him for not letting his troubles stop him from making the best out of life.

Speck:
again you have grasped the escence of the experience.
Must be all that clean living or the tequilla!
probably the perfect combination of the two but my point here being that I find myself getting caught up and swept away by lifes daily agravations (sp) to the point of sometimes complaining and acting like an ass.
Just a little not like an a**h***, ok maybe that too. Then you meet someone who either has gone through or like in this case someone who is fighting daily with a demon so tough You can only imagine what it must be like. THEN I AM REMINDED once again of the important things in life. Family and freinds top the list of favorites for me and beleive me when I say I dont think there is anything I could have done over this past holiday that would have given me more pleasure with perhaps one exception. I would have liked to have been sitting on that rock with his dad watching the hunt unfold. The smiles on their faces and the heartfelt gratitude they expressed did it for me. However I had to defer and point out that it was WP that led the hunt and put him on that pig and Ofer who volunteered to drag it 2 miles back to the nearest road. All I did was cook dinner. This one goes down as one of the best ever in my record book.
