With all the new postings about recent public land pigs, it's time I chimmed in with our recent public successes.

Our first pig was a boar taken back in July, the 17th to be exact. My buddy Pheng and I were both sitting together at well-used water hole well before first light. A little past six, we heard some rustling in the thickets ahead of us. All of a sudden, this big black boar comes charging past us at mach speeds just about five yards away. So fast, we didn't have time to shoulder our shotguns (forgot to mentioned that this particular trac of land only allows the use of shotguns). "We'd blown it. The boar winded us," we thought. We found ourselves cursing at each other at the blown opportunity. In the midst of our cursing and swearing and who knows what, to our surprise the boar came trotting back. "$h!t, it didn't wind us and it's coming back to drink." We both shouldered our Super Black Eagles, took aim, and as the boar got to within 20 yards, we both simultaneously fired. The boar dropped in it's tracks. After the hi-5s and congrats, we walked over to check it out. It was a huge young boar with two inch tusks the pushed 250lbs.

Our most recent pig was down for the count on, coincidently, the 17th also. Wow! I didn't even realize that until now

...
Anyhow, we got to our favorite water hole the evening before only to find out it was bone dry. Without a clue of where to start, we decided to just sit in hopes of something happening. As last light fell, all hope was gone and we called it the night.
Next morning, we were up early hoping to find another water source, hopefully close by. We splitted up. My search came up empty so I radioed my buddy at about 7:30ish for us to re-group. Not more than a few minutes after that, I heard three shots, back to back! I waited a few minutes to allow my buddy to catch his breathe and for his call. Not a squeak from him. "He must be on a chase or something," I thought. A few more minutes (seconds in reality) and still nothing from him. I couldn't wait anymore and radioed him. He said he took one head shot and two passing shot as the pig bolted away and wasn't sure how solid the shots were. I rushed over to where he was and we started the search. He thought we surely wouldn't find it as he wasn't too sure of the shots. Just a little more than 100 yards out, we quickly found that all of his three shots were true. His first pig! A public land pig! Priceless...

Pheng's priceless moment:

Nice work, fellas! Even better that it's public land.

Seeing an awful lot of public land pig success here, lately. Hmm... might have to swing back out to some of my old spots.

What should race have to do with anything, m hunter?

The name Pheng should answer that question. But again like barel74 said, what does it have to do with it.

Not to hijack the post, Congrats on the success. I bet the shoulder armor plate on that boar was tasty or was there any?

Thanks for shoutouts guys...This is actually my third public porker. My first porker, as shown on my avatar, was taken last year at Ft. Hunter Leggit. I tell ya, nothing is more satisfying than knowing that they are out there in 'em public lands...

m hunter, we're a couple of Hmong hunters who loves nothing more than puttin' some bacon on the table.

Nice Hogs,

Did you shoot those hogs with shotgun slugs ?

I also have a Benelli Super Black Eagle II

Where in CA were you hunting ?

Did you use non lead slugs ?

What company makes non lead slugs ?

Shotgun slugs you must have been within 50 yards I'm guessing.

Hey my wife is an attorney that serves the Hmong community. Does that get me any info on where you have been hunting. A hint or two? Either way nice job!

This is a little off topic, but someone already started talking about ammo.

Is there any figures out comparing the Federal Premium Vital-Shok Ammunition 12 Gauge 2-¾ one oz Barnes Expander Hollow Point Sabot Slug Lead-Free with the Remington Premier Ammunition 12 Gauge 2-3/3 one oz Copper Solid Sabot Slug Lead-Free (?) I chose the Remington Copper Solid for Boar hunting thinking that the solid slug would not bounce off the hide of the boar.
