That hog in the front has some pretty nice cutters.......but it's a sow.....I know this as we got within 30 yards of her standing in the creek 3 weeks ago and my buddy took a shot at her......and missed.......I won't say his name as I don't want to embarass him....(NO NO...YOU DON'T HAVE TO THANK ME WAVESFR.....I'd never put you on the spot
<
).....anywho, he got a hog about an hour later so I guess it makes up for missing....that black hog behind the sow would make a great eating hog.....doesn't look like it but will probably go #150 or better......fat and healthy.....

I'm pretty sure those are not cows as there are photographic evidence. So unlike in JHO POR last May where after 2 hours in the field, I am becoming delusional and my heart would skip a beat everytime something smaller (like a calf) is beside a cow.

You know I might be able to help with the cow calling. Had an old farmer in Ky show me how to call cows when I was a kid. Might need a little practice but I'm sure I could do it.

That was cool. Kind of like when you see deer there can be turkeys around.

it's funny, the hog I shot on the POR in May was alongside a cow too. I looked down into this meadow and noticed a few cows. No biggie... seen a million of em.

But as I was looking one of them JUMPED excitedly! I thought... "that was awfully energetic for a cow... I better glass him." It was actually three hogs harrassing an innocent cow. The hogs were chasing it off and jumping up at it. I couldn't beleive it. 550 yards away. put the sneak... and 400 yards later I drilled a 130lb sow at 165 yards. That'll teach 'em not to harrass poor cows like that!

Bird Dawg, that is quite a calling talent you have. Would you go to Cottonwod Creek with me one day and call in some hogs? I'll buy lunch.

DaNG, I was wondering where that stuff got to! No wonder I haven't seen a hog in so long. I've had to switch back to my old deodorant... and they just don't like it as much. Sure does get the buzzards circling, though.

Seems to be pretty common to see the pigs in with the cattle. We had the same situation at VAFB in March. Saw three different groups of pigs mixed in with a big herd of cattle. I've seen that with elk a few times...guess it applies to the pigs as well.

The pigs use the cattle as sentries to let them know when something is wrong.
The pig I killed at Tejon this year was coming down a hill to feed with the cattle when I saw him, then I ran at him for a 50 yard shot.

I must admit something. I missed on purpose! I did not want to shoot that one. Because believe Me it was much more ugly in person.
