Not pretending to be an expert but note that the one person who got the pig on two separate Vandenberg hunts was she who sat on the side of a hill and glassed for hours, first to see where they were moving from bedding to food. Me on the other hand spent two days pushing thru bushes, crawling thru tunnels, hiking miles in sand, and at best heard scurrying sounds and a bad smell...and all I got for it was a good case of poison ivy.

I not an expert by any means either but I think when pushing through bedding areas, no matter how quiet you think you're being, there's a good chance the pigs are a step ahead of you, getting spooked before you get close. As you're snapping twigs and crawling through bushes, they're a step ahead. From my experience, spooked daytime pigs will jump up and run a mile if woken up. On the other hand, pigs who are eating are not as easily spooked. Pigs seem to get intoxicated when they're feeding. I've gotten pretty damn close creeping up to pigs eating acorns.

I probably wouldn't push pigs out of bedding areas if I were hunting alone. With a few other hunters, if you know the terrain, you can try to push bedded pigs out toward your hunting buddies... but you need to be familiar enough with the area to know where to put your "blockers" so they have a shot when the pigs get woken up and get on the move.

It seems like the problem glassing for pigs would be that you only have a narrow window. I would think pigs left alone would be sleeping during the day, so you would have to catch them as they're either on the way to bed (5-7am) or waking up on their way to feed (5-8pm). Then, take into consideration DFG regulations that you can only hunt 30 minutes prior to sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset-- that further cuts down your window of opportunity. Like I said I'm no expert but I think unless other hunters are pressuring bedded pigs in the area, glassing all afternoon wouldn't be all that fruitful.
