Our party decided on Area 39 in Idaho with a B tag. That's a any weapon antler hunt. Never been hunting in ID or for Elk at that. Looking forward to getting my feet wet, or snowed on that time of year. Got some maps on the way and will be making some phone calls between now and then to try and find a spot to start in.

Kentuck,
Good luck on your hunt. In my younger days I did alot of hunting around Atlanta. Took some good elk out of the area south of Hiway 20 to the middle fork of the Boise river, but that has been 26 years.

Man, good luck!! I was drawn for an antlered Elk tag in Area 48. One of 150 tags and the first time I've ever applied in Idaho. I'm going with a friend who used to live there and guide there. He hunts the Area for Mule deer every year and tells me I have a very good chance at getting the Elk of a lifetime in that Area. Lucky for me he has spent many years both as a resident and non-resident in the Area.

We're going on October 15th and will hunt almost 2 weeks. I feel pretty lucky and have already started praying for cold weather to get things moving.

So, you all in the know, is there still a chance that the Elk will be bugling after October 15th or has the rut fully ended by that time? I've read the peak is around late September until the first week in October. Should I be bothering with bringing and carrying my Cow call or bugle for locating on this hunt? I'm used to hunting in Oregon where the Bulls are barely in the rut by the end of the archery season and more likely in the peak around early to mid/late October.
