I have talked to the Regional Personnel and we have come up with the following to offer for an early Season Archery Only elk hunt in Owens Valley.

The Department wants to harvest elk mainly out of a two zones Bishop and Tinemaha (including West Tinemaha)

Archery Only either-sex good in the Bishop and Tinemaha and West Tinemaha 3 tags. August 11-19. I am going to run it through the system now. I appreciate everyone that took the time to call or send me an e-mail.

Sincerly

Joe

Thanks, I hope that the CA DFG continues to utilize archers the way other states have, we are a motivated, educated, and hardcore bunch for the most part, and appreciate being heard.

Thank you. I would have never bet a penny that we could have made a difference. Good systems work and this seems to be a good system. I thank you, CBH thanks you and every bowhunter in Ca thanks you. Definately a step in the right direction. Ed F

Joe,

Thanks.
Not only for the update but for taking those calls and emails. I'm sure some were not as diplomatic as they could have been. I'm also sure you're aware how emotional these "negotiations" can get.
We do appreciate your help and the willingness of the administration to at least take a second look at the situation.
FYI,,,for a whole lot of us bowhunters this tag is the "Holy Grail" of Calif. draws.

Regards.

DFGELK,
Thanks for the update and for taking the time to respond on behalf of bowhunters dreaming of being drawn for this tag...

Thanks for lending your ear Joe and thanks to all who cared enough to speak up and fight for our rights! This is an awesome hunt that we would all love to be drawn for but if I never get drawn I at least want to hear and read about the hunters who did right here in JHO. Thanks again, it feels great to be heard!

You know with all the private land and City/County properties that hold Tules on the West side, you'd think there would be more Archery oppurtunities in these areas!?!?

Well it looks like we didn't exactly get what we wanted. Yes there are still going to be some archery bull hunts, but it looks like just post rut. Seasons to start 9/8, not mid August as stated before.

What a bummer. I'm glad we still have some bow tags, but the August hunt was really the only chance for a bull that's not busted up. Chalk another one up to wishful thinking. Not to mention that the archery guys will get to share the field with the muzzleloader hunters! Wonderful!

Hopefully, this was printed BEFORE the change was made?????

If not, it's unacceptable.....PERIOD. I really don't want to hear the rationale of how "biologically" sound this decision was based on opinions from a few currently employed there. I used to work for DFG before transferring.....I know what happens when certain employees flex their personal agenda muscles! We (bowhunters) lose opportunity.

I'm beginning to agree with a statement recently made about the Department........"if the mosquito was designated as a big game animal, the DFG would have it nearly extinct and mis-managed within 10 years."

Any word on whether this is a mis-print, or if we need to start rallying the troops again? I got plenty of time to bombard every damn ear in the state if need be.

Just sound the horn and this Georgia Boy will saddle up.
