I just joined the Army, I dont leave for basic until nov.12 But when I recieve leave I plan to come back out and hunt pigs on VAFB. My question is, Is Vandenberg any good for pigs ? Do they have certain seasons like Camp Roberts, or is it an all year deal ? Thanks for your time.

it is pretty much all year. the only time they shut it down is for missle launches. the pig hunting there is great. i shot two pigs in one evening and saw many more while i was up there. good luck in basic. it is tons of fun.

I would love to know what zone you all hunt up there...Got up there early Saturday morning and hunting all day saturday, sunday and monday morning. Seen tons...and I mean TONS of deer, but only seen one pig the whole time. So much area to hunt and seeing I've never been up there before I'm totally clueless on what areas(zones) are better. Anyway, I'd love to go up there again someday, but sure would be nice to have a better idea of where to go and where to stay away from.

From what I've been told the northern area is the best. I've never been up to VAFB to hog hunt. There is a marsh near one road intersection that is supposed to be real good.

If you guys can send me a copy of a hunt map from VAFB I can scan it for everyone to download with the good areas marked on it. I tried calling the game warden up there to get a map but he seemed lost when I asked about the hunting area map. Bottom line was he wouldn't send me one eve if he could figure out what it was I was asking for.

The northern area is about 50,000 acres. There are pigs up there but when mnfshrman and I were up there this weekend, it was raining on Saturday and still wet on Monday. Now the pigs have water everywhere and can be tricky to find. Plan on walking for most of the day and trying to jump em' out. We did get on a nice size one on Sunday night around 500-600 yards out, but after a stealth like stalk from us the pig just vanished. If you have a shotgun, bring that with you also. They have shotgun and archery only areas that people say they see the most pigs in. Try near the golf course or west of there out where the railroad tracks are. That area is area 2A. Area 3 and 4 have pigs in them but we have yet to get a shot at one. We have spent some time up there and can point you where everyone else pointed us. I have seen around 5 of them out of 4 days of hunting.
